Under the direction of the Associate Vice President, Campus Services (CS) Finance and Business Operations, provides vision, leadership and direction in the creation of short and long term financial goals and fiscal policies to support the financial viability of the organization.

 

JOB DESCRIPTION:

  • Responsibilities include the administration of and access to organization-wide financial and budgetary information for all CS business units, plus the Emory Utility Company, with net operating expense budgets in excess of $83.5M.
  • Is responsible for knowing critical functions within the organization and must be capable of mentoring and assisting employees within the department and the organization at large. Determines proper handling of all financial transactions and ensures approvals are within designated limits.
  • Identifies and implements adequate internal controls to ensure that all accounting transactions are in compliance with the University's internal audit requirements.
  • Participates in the strategic planning process, finalizes budgets, conducts feasibility analyses, researches and drafts business processes and aides in their implementation.
  • Forecasts the financial impact of changes to programs and processes. Prepares materials and keeps senior leadership informed of the status of budgets, funds flow, accounts, budget surpluses/deficits and other financial affairs.
  • Identifies departmental supervisors/managers whose budgets are in deficit at the end of each accounting period and works with them to identify reasons; advises on corrections or adjustments.
  • Develops and assures delivery of training programs to raise the financial awareness of CS managers and supervisors. Collaborates with others to facilitate special projects and ensures timelines and action plans are accomplished.
  • Makes presentations to university departments and represents CS on university committees. Provides leadership for a staff of approximately 10 professional or administrative employees. Performs related responsibilities as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree in finance, accounting or related field and ten years of related experience, including experience in a managerial or executive capacity.
  • Advanced degree or professional license preferred. Proficient in using Microsoft Office, with exceptional skill in the use of Excel.
  • A working knowledge of financial information systems. Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

PREFFERED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Prior experience managing finances for a service organization and/or a facilities/construction/utilities focused organization.
  • Prior experience designing positive customer and employee/team experiences and outcomes.
  • Prior experience with process management, including process review, development, and implementation.
  • Prior experience and strength with change management.
  • Prior experience managing/analyzing capital projects and the overall process

NOTE: Position tasks are generally required to be performed in-person at an Emory University location.  Remote work from home day options may be granted at department discretion. Emory reserves the right to change remote work status with notice to employee.
