Description

Located 36 miles east of Atlanta on Emory's historic and original campus, the Oxford College is seeking a full-time Library Specialist to provide information desk services during required library hours, and to serve as a back-up to support other library functions, as requested.

JOB DESCRIPTION:

  • Performs a variety of complex library services and operations requiring a specialized knowledge.
  • May process, verify and change bibliographic information online.
  • Handles requests for borrowing and lending library materials.
  • Performs bibliographic management activities such as searches, checking the series and name authority files, and reviewing cataloging records.
  • Provides research assistance and answers complex research requests.
  • Interprets library policies, handles specialized materials and instructs users in the use of internal and external information resources.
  • Creates permanent machine-readable bibliographic and authority records.
  • Sets-up, operates and maintains audio-visual and television equipment.
  • Searches databases to determine the availability of materials, oversees receipt/check-in of materials, and organizes/prepares materials for binding.
  • May hire, train, supervise and evaluate student or general staff.
  • May monitor and direct workflow in assigned areas.
  • Performs related responsibilities as required.

ADDITIONAL JOB DETAILS: 

  • Responsible for completing start up and closing routines at the Information Desk and reporting any building concerns to management.
  • Performs a variety of tasks associated with providing specific user services for the library users (e.g., circulating materials, verifying user status, communicating library policies, and organizing materials for public use) using a knowledge of multiple on-line products.
  • Responds to requests from users for information and circulation transactions.
  • Interprets library policies, handles specialized materials and instructs users in the use of internal and external information resources.
  • Communicates library policies/procedures to user community.
  • Organizes materials for shelving, prepares materials for loan, scanning, pick-up, online course reserves, and other user services.
  • Maintains required record keeping and statistics.
  • Monitors traffic through library entrance and directs individuals accordingly.
  • Provides complex library services and research assistance, including bibliographic verification.
  • Triages requests for virtual library services.
  • Opens and secures the library at closing, as scheduled.
  • May process, verify and change bibliographic information online.
  • Handles requests for borrowing and lending library materials.
  • May perform bibliographic management activities such as searches, checking the series and name authority files, and reviewing cataloging records.
  • May provide research assistance and answers complex research requests.
  • Performs related responsibilities and project assistance, as required.
  • Work schedule is as follows and is subject to change: Sunday-Thursday: 1pm-10pm

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A bachelor's degree in a related field.
  • Two years related experience.
  • May require computer skills, special skills or proficiency in a foreign language.

NOTE: Position tasks are required to be performed in-person at an Emory University location; working remote is not an option. Emory reserves the right to change this status with notice to employee.
