Description

The Department of Family and Preventive Medicine (FPM) strives to be a national leader in consequential translational and population-based research, patient- and family-centered clinical care, and health professional education. We are preparing tomorrow’s leaders to provide efficient, affordable, and effective care that can heal entire communities. The Administrator for FPM plans, coordinates, and is responsible for major administrative and clinical activities including grants and contracts, budget planning, financial analysis, data processing operations, and human resources management across the department, including multiple locations and Emory Healthcare partnership.

 

DEPARTMENT HIGHLIGHTS:  

  • 88 faculty and 31 staff.
  • Six divisions: family medicine; preventive medicine; palliative medicine; physician assistant training program; student health services; and undergraduate medicine program.
  • Three vice-chairs: research; diversity, equity, and inclusion; and faculty development.
  • Physician Assistant program ranked top 5 nationally.
  • 3 graduate medical education programs: family medicine residency (30 trainees); hospice and palliative medicine (8 trainees); and general public health and preventive medicine (7 trainees).
  • Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) contractual agreements support:
    • 1) Preventive Medicine Residency and Fellowship Program;
    • 2) Geriatric Workforce Enhancement Program to enable better health and wellness for older adults.
      Family Medicine Dunwoody training site achieved NCQA level 3 patient-centered medical home.
  • University department book of business is $3.8 million (PA program $3 million).
  • FY22 Grant awards in excess of $3 million.

ROLE DESCRIPTION:

  • Responsible for process improvement, adherence to patient access standards and oversight of departmental business and financial systems.
  • Evaluates operations to ensure they are operating efficiently as related to patient care and organizational financial requirements.
  • Develops both short-term and long-term performance targets and financial goals.
  • Manages actual performance of expenses and revenues against budget and provides analysis of all material variances to leadership.
  • Creates financial projections and feasibility analysis as needed to meet operational goals and comply with internal audit standards.
  • Oversees costs and budgets for multiple sites and/or specialties.
  • Focuses on revenue cycle management and all associated components such as coding, charge submission, charge lag reduction and charge entry accuracy and validity.
  • Manages physician profit and loss analyses, compensation, and productivity measurement and physician communication in conjunction with departmental leadership.
  • Prepares and distributes accurate and timely financial projections, assessments, analyses, reports, plans, and solutions to appropriate management, staff and faculty physicians.
  • Consults with physicians and physician leaders at each practice site to coordinate prompt resolution of operational issues.
  • Serves as a liaison with Emory Healthcare corporate functions and other Emory Healthcare operating companies such as the Emory Hospitals.

 

JOB DESCRIPTION:

  • Plans, coordinates, and is responsible for major administrative and clinical activities including grants and contracts, budget planning, financial analysis, data processing operations, and human resources management for at least one department or major division with multiple locations and at least one health system partner (Ex. Emory Healthcare).
  • Serves as an autonomous leader with departmental decision-making authority, including overall budget development and leadership presentation and responsibility, including grant funding.
  • Works with departmental leadership to develop, administer and monitor the capital equipment, operations, and personnel budgets.
  • Develops plans to ensure that generated clinical revenues increase each year while limiting expenses.
  • Works with Department Chair to establish goals and objectives for the department(s); monitors progress towards their achievement.
  • Develops and implements various clinical and administrative programs to enhance employees' skills and to improve the effectiveness of existing clinical services.
  • Develops new programs to ensure the growth of the department and to meet the changing demands for new services.
  • Acts as a liaison between management and other schools/departments concerning clinical activities and issues.
  • Ensures required record-keeping is maintained.
  • Develops and implements formal training and development programs for staff; mentors and provides career development opportunities for staff.
  • Performs related responsibilities as required.
  • Note: Administrators within the Basic Sciences oversee at least two Basic Science Departments with associated employee supervision. Basic Science Administrators may have responsibility for multiple locations and/or School of Medicine academic affiliations (e.g. Georgia Tech).


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master's degree, preferably in business, finance, or related science field, and seven years of professional business or management experience which includes experience in a clinical or healthcare environment, OR an equivalent combination of experience, education, and training.
  • Previous supervisory experience.
