Description

Campus Services is seeking qualified applicants for the Plant Operator I role. The shifts are Tuesday- Saturday; 11pm – 7:30 am OR  Sunday – Thursday; 3pm – 11:30 pm. 

 

JOB DESCRIPTION:

  • Supports the safe and efficient operation of steam plant boilers (up to 4,000 BHP) and Chillers (up to 2000 tons) and other equipment associated with the steam and chiller plants in accordance with the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) and the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) codes and standards.
  • Performs routine inspections of the steam boiler plant.
  • Records pressure / temperatures and other key operational data at routine intervals.
  • Supports operations associated with an electrical power distribution panel.
  • Performs minor mechanical piping repairs. Performs preventive and corrective maintenance in accordance with engineering practices on utility systems which include but are not limited to the following: compressed air, CO2, steam boilers, water purification, fuel oil, chillers, and glycol.
  • Supports the boiler chemical water treatment program.
  • Supports the cleaning and upkeep of the boiler room to prevent fire hazards.
  • Operates hand and power tools.
  • Takes the necessary precautions, in keeping with OSHA standards and other applicable federal and state regulations, when working with hazardous chemicals and materials and power equipment.
  • Uses personal protective equipment as required.
  • Performs other related responsibilities as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Three years of experience supporting steam operations.
  • A working knowledge of OSHA and EPA safety requirements.
  • Some positions in this classification may require a valid Georgia driver's license and an insurable driving record.
  • All candidates must be capable of frequently lifting and carrying 50 pounds and be capable of pushing or pulling up to 150 pounds properly.

NOTE: Position tasks are required to be performed in-person at an Emory University location; working remote is not an option. Emory reserves the right to change this status with notice to employee.
