Description

The Faculty Staff Assistance Program and the School of Medicine (SOM) Graduate Medical Education (GME) Office have established a unique position for a psychologist with extensive clinical skills and experience working with physicians to provide targeted behavioral health, education and outreach services for the over 1,450 medical residents and fellows in training at Emory University.

 

The Emory University School of Medicine is part of the Robert W. Woodruff Health Sciences Center, which encompasses the components of Emory University concerned with patient care, education of health professionals, research affecting health and illness, and policies for prevention and treatment of diseases.  The psychologist will be part of the Behavioral Mental Health team of FSAP, which is the internal employee assistance program (EAP) for Emory University and Emory Healthcare.

 

The psychologist will provide the following: direct clinical services including comprehensive mental health and well-being assessments, psychotherapy, clinical consultations, coaching services, case management, crisis intervention, critical incident response, fitness-for-duty screenings and coordination of fitness-for-duty evaluations; leadership consultations; training and education workshops, outreach, resource development, program evaluation, and program development. Services will be provided through tele-mental health and onsite at the FSAP Main Office, as well as the satellite location at Cox Hall – Clifton Campus.  The position will require some evening hours for service accessibility to House Staff.  Please find below additional job details for a further description of duties.

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

CONSULTATION:

  • Provides consultation services to SOM Program Directors, GME Leaders and attending faculty regarding behavioral, mental health and wellness concerns of House Staff.
  • These services will include supporting residents and fellows with navigating the organizational issues and complexity that emerge interfacing with multi-disciplinary teams within the various medical units as they engage in their clinical rotations.

TRAINING AND EDUCATION:

  • Develops and provides workshops on wellness topics that include resident physician burnout prevention, resilience, change management, sleep hygiene, managing conflict and stress management.
  • Participates in the SOM Wellness Working Group and other GME initiatives to promote the health and well-being of residents and fellows.

 OUTREACH:

  • Provides presentations and outreach services by engaging in rounding services at designated hospitals, House Staff Orientation, Department Grand Rounds, resident retreats and other House Staff and SOM functions.

 RESOURCE DEVELOPMENT AND REFERRAL COORDINATION:

  • Maintains a referral network of medical and mental health providers.
  • Develops mental health, stress management, crisis and psychosocial resource directory for GME and FSAP websites.

PROGRAM EVALUATION:

  • In collaboration with GME and FSAP colleagues, develops criteria and methods in for evaluating program impact and research projects to promote academic scholarship.
  • Collaborates with GME and FSAP to prepare manuscripts for publication.
  • Provides quarterly and annual reports to reflect utilization of services.

PROGRAM DEVELOPMENT:

  • Maintains knowledge of research, benchmarks and core competencies, and standards of practice facilitated by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME), peer graduate medical education (GME) institutions and resident wellness programs.
  • Reviews program evaluation data and GME priorities in an ongoing way and modifies program structure and emphasis accordingly.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A doctorate in counseling/clinical psychology and two years of psychological counseling experience.
  • Licensed as a Psychologist or license eligible in Georgia is required.
  • Cover letter required for consideration.

 PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Three years of related experience in mental health, substance abuse/chemical dependency intervention, clinical assessment and psychotherapy and diagnostic skills is preferred.
  • Experience in medical and higher education environments is preferred.
  • Knowledge/experience with employee assistance programs and wellness/well-being services preferred.

 

NOTE: Position tasks are generally required to be performed in-person at an Emory University location.  Remote work from home day options may be granted at department discretion. Emory reserves the right to change remote work status with notice to employee.
