KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Directs the strategic planning, development, and implementation of program.
- Collaborates with representatives from private, government, and international agencies.
- Represents the program in various national and international fora.
- Conducts research, designs new initiatives, writes publishable articles and papers, collaborates with others, and designs programs.
- May supervise staff.
- Performs other related duties as required.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor's degree in field related to specific program as indicated and five years program related experience, or equivalent combination of experience, education, and training.
- Master's degree preferred.
ADDITIONAL JOB DETAILS:
The primary responsibilities of the Associate Director are: (1) to support Emory faculty in the development of digital, open access monographs for publication with academic presses, and (2) to understand and communicate the changing landscape of academic publishing, particularly the emerging digital publication initiatives at university presses, to faculty across the humanities.
This position is funded by the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation as part of the Changing Landscape of Publication in the Humanities grant for a one-year period. As the grant funding ends, there is an opportunity for this position to continue within the Office of Faculty to support digital publishing as well as other faculty development activities.
The Associate Director:
- Collaborates closely with campus partners, including the Fox Center for Humanistic Inquiry (FCHI), the Emory Center for Digital Scholarship (ECDS), Emory Libraries’ Scholarly Communications Office (SCO), and the Center for Faculty Development and Excellence (CFDE).
- Serves as an advisor to faculty about the publication options for their monographs and acts as a liaison between humanities faculty and the staff of university presses, when appropriate.
- Shepherds faculty authors through the application process for open access subventions and works closely with SCO to negotiate open access agreements with publishers.
- Develops campus programming for faculty, staff, and graduate students across Emory’s humanities community to foster greater understanding of digital publishing options.
- Gives presentations to classes and other campus groups or visitors as requested.
- Coordinates individual consultations, project team meetings, collaborative workshops, and roundtable discussions to facilitate the development of digital monographs by faculty authors.
- Oversees publicity for the initiative, including publishing articles about the digital publishing initiative and maintaining the DPH website and social media presence.
- Represents the Digital Publishing in the Humanities initiative at national and international conferences and develops relationships with colleagues in the wider academic publishing and digital humanities communities.
- Provides annual reports to both the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation and Emory College.
NOTE: Position tasks are generally required to be performed in-person at an Emory University location. Remote work from home day options may be granted at department discretion. Emory reserves the right to change remote work status with notice to employee.
