Description

Cage Wash Technicians performs routine duties associated with cage sanitation and preparation for reuse in a research setting including cage maintenance, monitoring equipment for proper functioning and maintaining sanitary conditions.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Operates washers and ensures that cage washing and related equipment are in proper working order by cleaning, and preventive maintenance.
  • Performs routine start-up and shut down procedures.
  • Operates autoclave to sterilize or decontaminate caging equipment.
  • Assists in receiving and storing materials, food and supplies.
  • Transports caging supplies between animal rooms and cage wash rooms.
  • Maintains sanitary conditions of cage washing rooms and other ancillary areas, such as hallways and storage areas.
  • May assist in training new technicians.
  • May provide guidance and direction to Cage Wash Trainees. Works independently.
  • May act in a lead capacity in the cage wash area in the absence of their supervisor.
  • Takes the necessary precautions, in keeping with OSHA standards and other applicable federal and state regulations, when working with hazardous chemicals, materials, animals and power equipment.
  • Uses personal protective equipment as required. Performs related responsibilities as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A high school diploma or equivalent.
  • One year of cage wash or animal care experience.
  • The ability to lift up to 75 pounds.
  • Positions in this classification may require a valid Georgia driver's license and an insurable driving record.

NOTE: Position tasks are required to be performed in-person at an Emory University location; working remote is not an option. Emory reserves the right to change this status with notice to employee.
