Description

Emory Law seeks a dynamic, creative professional person to join the team in the Office of Communication to support Emory Law’s strategic initiatives.  The Associate Director shall develop and execute on-trend marketing and communication plans that increase the profile of the school among its various constituencies.  The Associate Director supports the work of Emory Law’s Office of Communication through development of content related to faculty scholarship for internal and external distribution, including to national peer audiences.  The position develops and executes all law alumni email communications.  Lastly, the Associate Director shall support general work of the office through writing press releases, executive communications, and feature stories for web and print publication. 

 

Faculty Scholarship:

 

  • Work with associate deans of faculty and research to promote faculty reputation internally, and to national audiences. 
  • Serve as editor for the bi-annual print, web and email publication, Emory Law Insights, which presents recent faculty scholarship and profiles.
  • Direct freelance designer and illustrator; work with featured faculty to select and approve content.
  • Maintain Emory Law’s faculty scholarship website section.
  • Maintain Emory Law’s "in the news" website section, posting news and writing news stories.
  • Post regional/national faculty media mentions, as they occur, to home page and social media.
  • Work with associate dean of faculty on a monthly internal newsletter that informally shares recent faculty publications, honors and presentations.
  • Initiate and prepare monthly faculty scholarship newsletter for internal and external publication: post to law website, law social media; prepare and send emails to national peer audience.
  • May provide guidance to faculty research assistants—including student research assistants hired directly by faculty and through law school centers and initiatives—through training and coordination to assist them with faculty communication needs.

Alumni Relations:

  • Serve as liaison/lead between the Office of Communication, Law Advancement and Alumni Engagement, and Emory Alumni Association (EAA) for all law alumni communications, developing content design and copywriting to adhere to EAA editorial/visual standards.
  • Prepare and send emails to support national and regional Emory Law alumni events. 
  • Coordinate scheduling with EAA Sharepoint manager. Coordinate review/approvals between departments to deliver monthly alumni news. 
  • Develop and maintain editorial calendar.
  • Track local/national media and alerts for alumni mentions to post to Emory Law website and social media.
  • Write/edit alumni class notes for website and edit for use in bi-annual alumni magazine.
  • Acquire and process photos and alumni web bios for use in notes; access AWA database for fact-checking.
  • Write alumni-related news stories for website, authoring broader stories for posting on website, alumni magazine, and social media.
  • Work with designers to prepare programs and materials, as needed.

General Communications:

  • Assist with Communications workload, including admission and internal communications, when required. Examples include:
    • Prepare periodic executive communications, such as event remarks and messages from the dean.
    • Write feature stories for Emory Lawyer
    • Prepare press releases and social media posts.
    • Provide writing and proofing for broader work of the department.
    • Perform related duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A bachelor's degree in communications, public relations, marketing, art or other related field.
  • Six years of experience in the development of marketing and informational materials, writing/research, project management and/or information technology.
  • Additional related experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
  • Knowledge of publishing and other related software.
  • Demonstrated creativity in the design of marketing, public relations or educational programs and communications materials.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Knowledge of the following software is desirable:
    • Adobe Creative Suite,
    • MS Office,
    • MailChimp,
    • Cascade,
    • iModules,
    • Emory AWA alumni database,
    • Basecamp,
    • Wufoo,
    • Hootsuite, and
    • Flickr.
  • Knowledge of Associated Press Stylebook, Chicago Manual of Styleand Emory editorial guidelines.
  • Self-direction, with ability and experience to create clear and accurate content for website and other publications with little supervision.
