JOB DESCRIPTION:

  • Reporting to the Director of Engineering Services, this position leads a team of Commissioning and Controls Specialists that are responsible for ensuring that the University meets it energy and greenhouse gas reduction goals by maximizing operational efficiency.
  • Serves as the back-up to the Director of Engineering Services.
  • Prioritizes and manages the building commissioning projects and processes for the University, such as Emory's capital projects commissioning, Sustainable Performance Program (SPP) and Existing Building Commissioning (EBCx).
  • Responsible for contracting commissioning services from third party commissioning agents for all large capital projects as needed.
  • Responsible for developing scope of work, writing requests for proposal, and approving payments.
  • Oversees the commissioning process in-house for smaller projects.
  • Adept at reviews of design document submittals, contractor equipment submittals and construction installations for the purposes of commissioning and Emory's long term operational requirements.
  • Within existing facilities, adept at identifying projects that focus on correcting inefficiencies in HVAC, domestic hot water systems, central utility plants, lighting, process equipment and building control systems.
  • Has oversight for all commissioning and re-commissioning processes from initial identification and evaluation through installation and measurement and verification.
  • Provides technical guidance and oversight to standardizing the University building automation systems.
  • Coordinates with the Energy Manager to perform on-site energy audits to identify applicable and cost-effective energy efficiency and demand response measures, assists in prioritizing energy and operational improvements based on budgets and relative cost/benefit analyses, and maintains detailed and accurate project records including data, documentation, and progress reports.
  • Stays abreast of relevant industry development and technology advancements. Develops and maintains Emory University Design Standards related to commissioning and controls.
  • Exemplifies and incorporates Campus Services' Mission, Vision and Values into the commissioning program's daily work ethics and practices.
  • Hires, supervises, evaluates, and promotes professional development and mentoring of a staff of commissioning specialists and analysts.
  • May on occasion provide daily supervision for employees from other departments and outside Contractors.
  • Performs related responsibilities as required.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A bachelor's degree in Engineering from an ABET accredited program and seven years of experience with commissioning or related processes, OR an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
  • Experience with HVAC testing and balance, direct digital controls for HVAC and mechanical systems, central chilled water plants and distribution systems and steam distribution systems is desirable.
  • General knowledge of applicable building codes and Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) is preferred.
  • A Certified Commissioning Professional (CCP), given by the Building Commissioning Association, is preferred.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Must be able to climb stairs and ladders to access equipment.
  • Required to wear personal protective equipment where necessary.
  • A valid Georgia driver's license and an insurable driving record.

NOTE: This role will be granted the opportunity to work from home regularly but must be able to commute to Emory University on a flexible weekly schedule based upon business needs. Schedule is based on agreed upon guidelines of department. This role requires residency in the state of GA. Emory reserves the right to change remote work status with notice to employee.
