The Assistant Director of Community and Student-Led Engagement is a dedicated, passionate, and motivational leader, who inspires and works well with students, colleagues, alumni and community partners to embrace the mission of Emory University and the Center for Civic and Community Engagement (CCE), by collaborating to better the world through our civic and community engagement programs. Plays an instrumental role in the daily management and execution of programs and services, including, but not limited to weekly service trips, alternative breaks, volunteer and database management, workshops, and community partner communication.
The Assistant Director works full-time and is based out of the CCE office, but will also spend significant time, as needed, building relationships across the University and out in the community. Reports to the Director for Community and Student-Led Engagement.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Serves as a member of the CCE professional staff asked to assist in developing strategies and initiatives to accomplish identified outcomes with colleagues and senior leadership.
- Collaborates with the CCE staff in leading a robust, educational, and sustainable community engagement portfolio. Oversees planning, implementation, relationship building, and evaluation of assigned civic and community engagement programs involving students, some faculty and alumni, and community partners.
- Takes a major leadership role in the planning and oversight of major programming and events in the Student-Led Engagement Area. This includes, but not limited to: Volunteer Emory (especially Weekly Service Trips and Days of Service), Social Justice Education, Alternative Breaks, and SHINE. This includes, but is not limited to supervising student leadership teams, serving as liaison between community partners and the CCE, ensuring proper coordination of travel, risk management, recruiting, preparing, and maintaining positive relationships with community partners/sites, and cultivating positive relationships with faculty who teach service-learning courses for the purposes of having their students participate in programs. However, given the collaborative nature of our work and the needs of the CCE, projects that the coordinator leads or assist with are subject to change within their area.
- Assists with student leadership development and student intern selection process (i.e. student Executive board, student staff, graduate assistants).
- Plays a leading role the CCE's efforts in supporting the student groups and initiatives (i.e. service council) centered around service and community engagement.
- In coordination with the Student-Led Director, conducts training and may represent the program at various conferences, meetings, committees, and seminars internally and nationally.
- Monitors expenditures and assists in managing the budget for the area.
- Prepares operational and statistical materials and reports to assist in decision-making, newsletters, briefings, online/social media, and overall promotion of programs in collaboration with the Director.
- In conjunction with the Student-Led Director and in collaboration with other staff in the CCE/faculty develops and executes assessment tools and strategies for programmatic activities and events.
- Responds to internal and external requests in a timely manner.
- Keeps supervisor informed of professional and program successes, challenges, and concerns through written reports (as necessary) and 1-on-1 meetings.
- Attends staff, Emory Campus Life (ECL), and other University related meetings and events related to the position and approved by supervisor.
- Represents Emory, Campus Life, and the CCE in various campus, community, state, and national settings, when needed and approved by supervisor.
- Demonstrates professional and appropriate relationships with students, parents, alumni, Emory faculty/staff, and community partners.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- A bachelor's degree and two years of related professional work experience, OR an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
- A working knowledge of student development, student affairs best practices, programmatic assessment, student leadership and student retention as well as academic civic and community engagement professional skills is preferred.
- A master's degree is preferred.

- Experience with student-led Alternative Break trips and associated risk management procedures.
- Experience in community engaged settings and in conducting partnership-oriented programs.

- Strong interpersonal, critical thinking, problem solving, team building, and conflict resolution skills.
- Strong technology skills
- Ability to exercise a high level of independent judgment
NOTE: Position tasks are generally required to be performed in-person at an Emory University location. Remote work from home day options may be granted at department discretion. Emory reserves the right to change remote work status with notice to employee.
