HEALTH PROGRAMS, MENTAL HEALTH PROGRAM:
Continuing the legacy of the late former First Lady Rosalynn Carter, a longtime champion for the rights of people with mental illnesses, the Carter Center's Mental Health Program works to promote awareness about mental health issues, inform public policy, achieve equity for mental health care comparable to other health care, and reduce stigma and discrimination against those with mental illnesses. Utilizing our unique position in Georgia, The Mental Health Program works to advance evidence-based public policy at the state level, while identifying best practices that can inform policy change in other states and at the federal level.
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Associate Director designs and coordinates the Mental Health Program’s U.S.-focused Public Policy operations and activities, including public policy development, policy analysis, issue research, coalition building, and grassroots advocacy. They lead initiatives to advance public policy change in the U.S., the State of Georgia, and other states/regions in areas including mental health access and parity, school-based behavioral health programs, and early intervention/prevention. They collaborate across programs within the Mental Health Program (including the Rosalynn Carter Fellowships for Mental Health Journalism and Global Behavioral Health) and other Carter Center (TCC) programs, when applicable, while leveraging external partnerships and managing coalitions. This position will report to the Director of the Mental Health Program.
The position is based in Atlanta, GA and will travel to represent The Carter Center at state and national meetings, workshops, and conferences, as needed. The Associate Director may occasionally be required to travel internationally, but not regularly.

NOTE: This role will be granted the opportunity to work from home regularly but must be able to commute to The Carter Center on a flexible weekly schedule based upon business needs. Schedule is based on agreed upon guidelines. All non-exempt employees must reside within the state of Georgia. The Carter Center reserves the right to change remote work status with notice to employee.
