Description

A new research specialist position is available in the laboratory of Dr. Carlos Moreno in the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at Emory University School of Medicine in Atlanta, Georgia USA. Successful applicants will join our diverse and collaborative translational research team to study the genetics and biology of prostate cancer health disparities.

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Under general supervision, performs a variety of defined research and laboratory tests and experiments according to prescribed protocols and assigned schedules.
  • Sets up experiments as prescribed by a principal investigator.
  • May be required to participate in laboratory maintenance activities such as sterilization and cleaning of equipment, ordering of supplies, inventory and media preparation.
  • Maintains records, files and logs of work performed in laboratory notebooks and computer databases.
  • Compiles data and records results of studies for publications, grants and seminar presentations.
  • Employees in this classification may be required to work with, take specific precautions against and/or be immunized against potentially hazardous agents.
  • Performs related responsibilities as required by principal investigator.

ADDITIONAL JOB DETAILS:

  • This position will involve carrying out experiments as well as acting as lab management.
  • Our research program uses a multidisciplinary approach to analyze how changes in gene expression lead to prostate cancer progression, metastasis, and mortality.
  • Our approach uses several tumor model systems, including human patient-derived cells and animal models of prostate cancer.
  • Job duties will include experiments with cell culture models and animal models of prostate cancer, handling laboratory equipment, preparing and organizing biological samples and reagents in the lab.
  • The new research specialist will train with Dr. Moreno, collaborators, and senior staff, and will carry out projects and duties under the supervision of Dr. Moreno and his lab members.
  • Members of our lab will have opportunities to learn more about therapeutics, prostate cancer biology, epigenetics, CRISPR editing, functional genomics, and bioinformatics in team-oriented projects that involve collaborations with other urology research groups in the Departments of Urology, Biostatistics and Bioinformatics, Hematology and Medical Oncology, and Biomedical Engineering.
  • Competitive candidates will have a background in cancer, biology or genetics.
  • The candidate will have the opportunity to obtain new training in bioinformatics and biostatistics, mentor students and other trainees, and contribute to manuscripts and grant applications.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree in a scientific field OR equivalent combination of experience, education, and training.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Candidate will have a bachelor’s degree, excellent written/verbal English communication skills, strong organizational skills, and the ability to work independently while being a team player.
  • Previous experience in mammalian cell culture, mouse xenografts, and/or related areas.

NOTE: Position tasks are required to be performed in-person at an Emory University location; working remote is not an option. Emory reserves the right to change this status with notice to employee.
