Description

JOB DESCRIPTION:

  • Reporting to the Director of Faculty & Start-up Services, the Assistant Director is responsible for maintaining a proactive faculty outreach focused on scouting new discoveries within Emory's diverse research programs.
  • Works with academic and clinical faculty to raise Intellectual Property (IP) awareness, foster innovation, entrepreneurship and academic-industry collaborations, and help develop new ideas and inventions.
  • Supports translational research through obtaining proof-of-principle funding and small business innovation research (SBIR) funding and small business technology transfer research (STTR) funding.
  • Provides services and consultation to faculty for issues relating to IP commercialization.
  • Facilitates faculty start-up activities and new venture creation by working with faculty founders, business entrepreneurs, investors, industry partners and other parties.
  • Maintains an active program in entrepreneurial education and training for internal and external constituents.
  • Maintains current knowledge of investment and market trends in all sectors of life sciences.
  • May hire and supervise a small staff.
  • Assists the Director with operational activities.
  • Manages special projects.
  • Performs related responsibilities as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A master's degree in a science or business related field and four years of related work experience OR a PhD in a science or business field and two years of related work experience.
  • Independent research experience and working knowledge of licensing or experience in other aspects of technology transfer is desirable.
  • Excellent customer service skills.

NOTE: This role will be granted the opportunity to work from home regularly but must be able to commute to Emory University location as needed and at times, on short notice.  Emory reserves the right to change this status with notice to employee.
