KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Directs the strategic planning, development, and implementation of program.
- Collaborates with representatives from private, government, and international agencies.
- Represents the program in various national and international fora.
- Conducts research, designs new initiatives, writes publishable articles and papers, collaborates with others, and designs programs.
- May supervise staff.
- Performs other related duties as required.

Position Description - Asc Dir, Programs: Editing Supervisor, Georgia Center for Cancer Statistics
- Reports to the Director of Registry Operations
- Supervises a staff of 10-15 remote editors
- Ensures every case is edited and consolidated timely and accurately prior to annual submissions to SEER, NPCR CDC, and NAACCR.
Supervisory Tasks:
- Answer e-mails, phone calls, and review data tasks from editors to resolve problems
- Conduct quality control review of random Editor completed tasks
- Assign cases that are not assigned automatically by DMS (for the submission year being processed)
- Monitor abstracting status for timely completion
- Monitor staff’s tasks to ensure equitable distribution of work. Re-distribute tasks from editor to editor to ensure tasks are done timely
- Monitor and compile editor’s monthly production for management and send each editor their monthly production report
- Keep editors informed of changes and editing priorities
- Assign special tasks to editors when applicable
- Prepare yearly evaluations for each editor
- Review daily reports on status of cases and take appropriate actions - address editor problems, review difficult cases, advise editors, interpret guidance and recommend best answers
Registry Tasks:
- Edit and consolidate cases for completeness and accuracy
- Complete special tasks assigned by Supervisors and Managers
- Use Accurint to verify addresses and SS# and resolve duplicate patient sets identified by editors
- Run data search queries when needed and create QCs for corrections when data items have been coded/edited incorrectly
- Request records, missing data or clarification from submitting facility via state regional coordinators
- Work with supervisor to resolve pre-submission edit errors
- Assist in Death Clearance activities as necessary
- Identify and report DMS issues
Training and Professional Development
- Train new employees on DMS and editing procedures, editing rules, and how to prioritize tasks
- Provide opportunities for cross training staff: editing, abstracting, image data entry, QA
- Encourage attendance for professional organization conferences and NAACCR webinars to ensure editor’s skills are current and they meet their annual CTR credits required for certification
- Represent GCCS at local, state and national conferences and meetings
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor's degree in field related to specific program as indicated and five years program related experience, or equivalent combination of experience, education, and training.
- Master's degree preferred.
