Description

JOB DESCRIPTION:

  • Provides strategic leadership and technical direction for various aspects of a large and complex international program.
  • Responsible for overall management , technical development, implementation, personnel, budget and financial oversight of program. Build partnerships and relationships, work with donors.
  • Directs the strategic planning, development, and operations of a large and complex program.
  • Plans, administers and monitors program budgets.
  • Develops short and long term goals and objectives.
  • Oversees related special projects.
  • May represent the program in various national and international settings.
  • May manage the solicitation of funding from foundation, corporate, individual and governmental donors.
  • Collaborates with and seeks the support of representatives from other organizations.
  • Establishes and administers policies and procedures.
  • Supervises staff.
  • Performs related responsibilities as required.

ADDITIONAL JOB DETAILS:

This role will focus on co-funding, donor relationships, partnership development/management, and Network excellence. The Director of Program and Partnership Development will be a member of the CHAMPS (Child Health and Mortality Prevention Surveillance) senior leadership team reporting directly to the CHAMPS Executive Director/PI. This individual will work closely with the Chief of Staff and other CHAMPS leaders on the programmatic activities outlined below.

 

Travel: 4-5 times per year. This position will be expected to present at global health conferences and travel to Africa, South Asia, Europe, and the United States to meet with partners and donors.


Primary Responsibilities:

 

Co-funding and Donor Relationship Management

  • Lead and coordinate CHAMPS’s collaboration with the CDC Foundation and other partners to raise co-funding for CHAMPS core activities
  • Coordinate and manage donor relationships Partnership Development
  • Build new partnerships and grow existing global health partnerships.
  • Raise awareness of and promote the use of CHAMPS data by building partnerships with global advocacy groups, working with the communication team on strategically managing partnership opportunities, and CHAMPS’ involvement in conferences and meetings.
  • Work with Science, Site Strategic, and Implement Unit to promote a “Smart” MITS approach to interest non-CHAMPS countries in the integration of MITS protocols into their child mortality surveillance activities
  • Manage the CHAMPS Global Partners Board working closely with the Executive Director/PI and Chief of Staff
  • Build collaborations with relevant The Task Force Global Health, CDC Foundation, and Emory Global Health programs/projects to leverage programmatic opportunities and promote the use of CHAMPS

Network Excellence

  • Lead and coordinate CHAMPS’s efforts to provide leadership and technical training to women leaders and scientists in the field
  • Lead and coordinate the Ph.D. training program for CHAMPS network staff working in collaboration with partners
  • Work with Program Office leaders and site directors to establish and coordinate CHAMPS theme workgroups
  • Lead and coordinate the planning process to establish a new Program Office in Africa or South Asia working in collaboration with Business Operations, S3I, Impact and Engagement, and Informatics

Communications

  • Provide supervision and guidance to the Associate Director, Communication

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master's degree in public health, social sciences, public administration or a related field and ten years of related experience which includes five years at a management level, or equivalent combination of education, experience, and training.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A master’s degree in public health and/or a social science graduate-level degree.
  • Experience working with low-resource countries, particularly in Africa and South Asia.
  • Knowledge and experience working with global health surveillance system/research programs and/or public health programs
  • 8-10 years of relevant experience working in global health
  • Experience with writing and securing grants to support public health programs/projects
  • Experience working with donors and foundations
  • Experience working with advocacy partners both at the national and international levels
  • Experience working in cross-cutting programs that require the development of meaningful and active collaborations with team members and key stakeholders
  • Previous experience working in an international multi-site network
  • Experience managing technical workgroups
  • Excellent writing and communication skills
  • High-level analytic, collaboration, and coordination skills
  • Experience with supervising and training public health professionals
  • Comfortable traveling globally in low-resource countries

NOTE: This role will be granted the opportunity to work from home regularly but must be able to commute to Emory University on a flexible weekly schedule based upon business needs.  Schedule is based on agreed upon guidelines of department. This role requires residency in the state of GA. Emory reserves the right to change remote work status with notice to employee.
