Description

Serves as Senior Chaplain for an assigned unit within Emory Healthcare and is responsible for monitoring, staffing, and controlling the comprehensive and integrated resources for spiritual care for a hospital or clinic. 

 

Ensures that spiritual care is provided to patients, families, and staff for an assigned entity and develops outreach programs to surrounding communities to improve spiritual health within those communities. Supports the mission and integration of ethical values in patient care.

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Facilitates ACPE CPE programs comprehensively at Emory DeKalb Operating Unit [(EDOU) – Emory Decatur Hospital, Emory Hillandale Hospital, Emory Long-Term Acute Care Hospital] in collaboration with the Director (and any CECs).
  • Promotes outreach programs with surrounding communities, aligning with the goals, strategies, and the mission of EDOU EHC.
  • Supervises EDOU Spiritual Health team’s empathic and appropriate delivery of spiritual care to patients, families, and staff.
  • Guarantees delivery of spiritual care in an empathic manner ensuring appropriate spiritual care to patients, families, and staff in the assigned entity. 
  • Serves as counselor for staff spiritual health issues within an assigned hospital. 
  • Collaborates with departmental and institutional leadership and the Center for Spiritual Health to develop and create spiritual health opportunities in communities supported by the assigned entity. 
  • Ensures compliance with organizational and Association of Clinical Pastoral Education (ACPE) standards. 
  • Assures that new hires, fellows, pastoral fellows, and chaplains are properly oriented to the opportunities for outreach within communities. 
  • Demonstrates and encourages appropriate mentoring relationships. 
  • Provides leadership with relevant data supporting staff performance, and progress towards key initiatives, plans, and community outreach goals, as appropriate. 
  • Performs related responsibilities as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A master's degree in divinity.
  • Three (3) years of experience in ministry with demonstrated competence in pastoral care.
  • Certification by one or more certifying agencies (APC, NAJC, NACC, ACPE) and ordination or endorsement by an acknowledged ecclesiastical body.
  • Certified as an Association for Clinical Pastoral Education (ACPE) Associate or Full Supervisor preferred. Academic medical center experience preferred.
  • Hospital-based positions require previous health care experience in the appropriate pastoral care area such as mental health, geriatrics, or pediatrics.

NOTE: Position tasks are generally required to be performed in-person at an Emory University location.  Remote work from home day options may be granted at department discretion. Emory reserves the right to change remote work status with notice to employee.
