Description

JOB DESCRIPTION:

  • Supervises the activities of an assigned crew in the Grounds Shop of Campus Services.
  • Performs total exterior inspections and coordinates repair and maintenance of all landscapes, hardscapes, signage, lighting, waste, roads and bridges.
  • Conducts daily general inspections of work sites to ensure consistent quality standards are being met.
  • Functions as a liaison between internal and external customers and Campus Services to coordinate requests and needs. Maintains pesticide application record reports.
  • Assists in coordinating inclement weather and other emergency work campus wide.
  • May help manage subcontractors.
  • Responsible for campus wide duties, which may include: tree maintenance and removal, annual flower installation and maintenance, campus wide turfgrass program, and the invasive species removal program.
  • Procures all necessary equipment.
  • Orders seed, fertilizer, plants, mulch, pesticides, tools, and other materials.
  • Coordinates irrigation contractors for maintenance of irrigation systems.
  • Hires, trains, and evaluates staff in performance of landscape maintenance.
  • Assists in coordinating new landscape projects.
  • Identifies appropriate training to enhance and develop employees' skills.
  • Leads staff meetings.
  • Responsible for daily time reports, bi-weekly payroll and the monitoring of employee leave reports.
  • Initiates and assists HR with necessary corrective disciplinary actions, which may include writing disciplinary letters. Assists with graduation and other campus events.
  • Performs related responsibilities as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Five years of grounds maintenance experience which includes two years in a supervisory role.
  • A valid Georgia driver's license and an insurable driving record is required.
  • A valid Category 24 Ornamental and Turf Pest Control Pesticide Applicators License from the Georgia Department of Agriculture or the ability to obtain certification within six months of employment.
  • Knowledge of turf and plant installation and maintenance, chemical application methods, equipment maintenance and operation and of floricultural and arboricultural practices.
  • Positions within this classification may require the ability to lift 50 pounds and to bend, stoop, or twist.

NOTE: Position tasks are required to be performed in-person at an Emory University location; working remote is not an option. Emory reserves the right to change this status with notice to employee.
