Description

The School of Nursing is looking for an Academic Technology Specialist III to supervise AV equipment on-site at the Emory Nursing Learning Center in downtown Decatur and the main campus location at 1520 Clifton Road.  

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES FOR SCHOOL OF NURSING:

  • Provide consultative advice to faculty and other presenters on technical, multimedia and audio-visual presentation methods, techniques, and equipment.
  • Manage complex network-based AV systems and responsible for troubleshooting complex systems in a high-availability environment.
  • Work with a wide variety of instructional, multimedia and audio-visual technologies, networks and computer hardware and software, in support of classes and events.
  • Apply troubleshooting skills to assess equipment and process issues.
  • Work closely with the SON IT desktop support personnel to resolve AV issues.
  • Plan and consult on the installation of new AV equipment and equipment upgrades.
  • Review and challenge AV vendor quotes to assure the proposed solution and costs are consistent with the SON needs and current technology.
  • Plan and complete firmware upgrades; and/or works with AV vendor to complete.
  • Develop an inventory of AV equipment and create a plan for replacement.
  • Develop or escalate training as needed, based on consultation with users and understanding of technology, including FAQ's, knowledge-based entries, and job aids.
  • Provide technical leadership while working independently in a fast-paced, high-pressure, and high-profile educational environment.
  • Triage and coordinate the resolution of technical issues using a combination of ServiceNow and vendor support services.
  • Stay current with advances in AV equipment, system integration, and related technologies.

KEY RESPONSIBILTIES:

  • Leads strategic division and school-wide efforts to identify and deploy technologies that support the teaching and learning mission of the University.
  • Administers enterprise-wide systems and applications to ensure operability of services and provide a highly available, secure, and robust academic technology infrastructure.
  • Designs support models; deploys equipment and infrastructure into supported rooms and facilities and/or deploys enterprise-wide software applications for use by the Emory University and Emory Healthcare communities.
  • Monitors application activity, equipment security, and system functions to ensure required availability and integrity; works with OIT Enterprise Systems to ensure 7x24 end-to-end monitoring and event management systems and alerts are in place and properly supported.
  • Consults with OIT Infrastructure teams to identify new and evolving systems, servers, storage, and database resources.
  • Ensures systems and applications comply with required mandates and best practices.
  • Provides customer support to troubleshoot advanced-level technical problems, ensure productivity, and to maintain system operability.
  • Educates customers on available central services to promote technology usage at Emory and to create best practice standards.
  • Reviews departments' proposals for new technologies, and makes subsequent recommendations to management based on technology and financial support requirements.
  • Partners with vendors and other campus experts to evaluate customer technology requirements and offer effective, innovative and supported solutions.
  • Participates in projects to evaluate, test, implement, upgrade, and/or purchase new systems, applications, or services.
  • Serves on professional organizations' work groups and committees to promote industry standards and collaboration with peers to influence future technologies.
  • Performs related responsibilities as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A bachelor's degree and three years of experience in systems and/or application administration OR an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
  • Experience in instructional technology support in higher education is preferred.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree and 3-5 years experience working with a qualified AV vendor.
  • One AV-related certification: CTS, ANP, CAT, etc.
  • One IT certification: CompTIA A+, CompTIA, Network+, etc.
  • Ability to quickly learn new tools and technologies and adapt to an evolving field.
  • Exceptional customer service skills.
  • Ability to utilize relationship-building techniques to create an effective rapport with a wide variety of faculty and staff.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple high-impact services in a support role.

NOTE: Position tasks are required to be performed in-person at an Emory University location; working remote is not an option. Emory reserves the right to change this status with notice to employee.
