SUMMARY:

 

The Senior Accountant performs routine and complex accounting activities of a technical nature requiring knowledge of systems, independent judgment, and ability to respond accordingly. Reporting to the Director of Finance & Controller, this position will be responsible for daily bank account management and general ledger management for revenue for the organization.

 

FORMAL JOB DESCRIPTION:  

  • Performs routine and complex accounting activities requiring knowledge of systems, independent judgment and ability to respond accordingly.
  • Oversees activity on various accounts.
  • Analyzes past and current data and prepares expense projections and operational forecasts.
  • Assists with audits.
  • Designs and generates routine ad hoc reports and graphs.
  • May maintain grants and assist with budgets.
  • Coordinates computer operations.
  • Conceptualizes projects and follows through.
  • May provide direction to less experienced staff concerning accounting issues.
  • Performs related responsibilities as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or a related field and one year of professional accounting experience OR equivalent combination of experience, education and training.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Excel skills (pivot tables, sort/filter, formulas, ability to prepare templates and upload journal entries and files) PDF skills (organize, add, and edit pages) ERP knowledge preferred.
  • Banking knowledge a plus.
  • Nonprofit experience including analysis of restrictions.

NOTE: This role will be granted the opportunity to work from home regularly but must be able to commute to The Carter Center on a flexible weekly schedule based upon business needs.  Schedule is based on agreed upon guidelines.  All non-exempt employees must reside within the state of Georgia.
