Description

JOB DESCRIPTION:

  • Reporting to the Senior Director of Energy Strategy and Utilities, this position leads, prioritizes, and manages the overall implementation of engineering design services for the university, including electrical, mechanical, civil, environmental, energy performance and commissioning.
  • Develops and maintains Emory University design standards, departmental guidelines, policies, procedures, and programs pertaining to engineering services that ensures Emory ranks in the highest tier with peer institutions for design innovation and energy efficiency.
  • Establishes and maintains the campus' Utility Master Plan to ensure availability and reliability of utility systems are maintained to support daily and critical operations as well as the campus' Master Plan.
  • This position also works closely with the operations and maintenance groups to ensure design standards are maintained and operational efficiency is achieved.
  • Identifies opportunities for use of renewable energy technologies, and oversees the Energy Manager who has responsibility for electric and gas procurement and rate negotiations as applicable.
  • Responsible for reporting monthly and quarterly energy data to senior management on the effectiveness of energy conservation efforts including re-commissioning.
  • Is responsible for the planning, design, and documentation for all campus infrastructure and site engineered services.
  • Represents the department by serving on various campus, community and county committees.
  • Works with constituents on long-range campus planning issues and takes initiative to develop improvement plans. Plans, organizes and assigns work and special projects to effectively utilize available resources.
  • Hires, supervises, evaluates and promotes professional development and mentoring of a staff of professional engineers and analysts.
  • Establishes and manages the department's budget through monthly review of financial reports.
  • Performs related responsibilities as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A Bachelor's degree in engineering with seven years of experience involving design, construction and operation of large HVAC and district steam and chilled water systems as well as experience with Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) requirements.
  • A minimum of three years of related supervisory experience with demonstration of ability to multi-task and handle multiple priorities; excellent organizational and communication skills.
  • Licensed Professional Engineer in the State of Georgia preferred.
  • General knowledge of building codes, and applicable state and federal regulations.
  • Prior experience implementing energy conservation measures, building systems operation and design, as well as a district energy system for steam, chilled water and electricity.

NOTE: This role will be granted the opportunity to work from home regularly but must be able to commute to Emory
University on a flexible weekly schedule based upon business needs. Schedule is based on agreed upon guidelines of
department. This role requires residency in the state of GA. Emory reserves the right to change remote work status with notice to employee.
