Description

The Communications Outreach Manager is responsible for developing and sustaining partnerships that expand the reach and accessibility of research opportunities to individuals with Down syndrome, their families, and advocacy communities. This role implements outreach strategies, organizes community events, and promotes inclusive communication. Travel to outreach sites, events, and conferences will be required.

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Responsible for the integrated communication and promotion of divisional programs and services.
  • Collaborates with others to develop and implement programs and communications materials for targeted audiences which enhance awareness and utilization of divisional programs and services.
  • Creates effective promotional materials including articles, brochures, forms and flyers.
  • Designs, oversees and updates a website to educate and to promote activities and programs; coordinates website with other related websites.
  • May manage a budget.
  • May assist in evaluating, measuring and responding to issues related to the quality of services provided.
  • May conduct evaluations, surveys and focus groups to assist in quality improvement efforts.
  • Researches constituents' satisfaction with divisional programs and services.
  • Develops reports and recommendations to sustain high quality.
  • May supervise or provide direction to staff.
  • Leads projects as assigned.
  • Serves as an internal marketing consultant for programs and services.
  • May be responsible for managing various aspects of social media activities.
  • Performs related responsibilities as required.

ADDITIONAL JOB DETAILS;

  • Build and maintain relationships with advocacy organizations, clinics, and community partners
  • Plan and coordinate educational events, presentations, and outreach initiatives
  • Translate complex research materials into plain language formats for diverse audiences
  • Maintain outreach tracking systems and produce periodic progress reports
  • Incorporate participant feedback into outreach practices and study materials
  • Manage communication and logistical support related to study compensation and scheduling
  • Travel to local, regional, and national events to represent the Program and promote study awareness

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A bachelor's degree in communications, public relations, marketing, art or other related field.
  • Five years of experience in the development of marketing and informational materials, writing/research, project management and/or information technology.
  • Additional related experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
  • Knowledge of publishing and other related software.
  • Demonstrated creativity in the design of marketing, public relations or educational programs and communications materials.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, social work, or a health-related field (Master’s preferred)
  • Minimum two years of experience in outreach, advocacy, or community engagement, preferably involving individuals with Down syndrome or other IDD
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with sensitivity to culturally informed messaging
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work collaboratively across diverse communities
  • Familiarity with inclusive design, participant-centered language, and equity-focused engagement strategies
  • Willingness and ability to travel, including evenings and weekends as needed
  • Bilingual

NOTE: This role will be granted the opportunity to work from home regularly but must be able to commute to Emory University location as needed and at times, on short notice.  Emory reserves the right to change this status with notice to employee.
