Description

The Assistant Director - Student Engagement reports to the Director of Life Design, Leadership, and Engagement, and oversees the implementation of Oxford College’s student engagement programming and student development initiatives for all student leaders. The AD will also oversee the Student Government Association, including its connection and oversight to relevant student organizations on campus. The AD will work to connect SGA and student organizations to the operations and functions of the Oxford Student Center.   

 

JOB DESCRIPTION:

  • The Assistant Director for Continuing Student Experience will be charged with developing and implementing a programming and support strategy for Oxford College sophomores as they return to the campus for their second year.
  • In collaboration with colleagues across departments, this position will create, plan, and execute programs and projects to 1) build affinity, 2) build relationships and community, and 3) provide resources and information.
  • Plans and executes large-scale events aimed at the sophomore class throughout the semester.
  • Collaborates with colleagues in the division to provide programs that offer regular, low-stakes programming for students to make connections.
  • Oversees programming calendar and logistics, such as budget, space reservations, catering, and supply ordering. Collaborates with the Orientation Committee to connect events, themes, and programs, while specifically catering to the sophomore experience (like Candlelight Procession, Coke Toast, etc).
  • Collaborates with the International Student Programs office to provide overlapping programs and support for our International student population.
  • Creates assessment plan tied to programming to include satisfaction, attendance, and feedback from participants. Oversees welcome program for small cohort students admitted in January. Connects resource documents and information to provide students with a 'one-stop-shop' for campus resources.
  • Supports ongoing SIL initiatives (like staffing leadership retreats and supporting student leader training). Performs other related duties as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A master's degree and two years of experience in a higher education setting, OR an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

ADDITIONAL JOB DETAILS: 

Student Programming Leadership & Oversight (25%) 

  • Oversee daily student programming operations and coordinate special projects.
  • Coordinate and/or support facets of Campus Life late night/weekend programming.
  • Cultivate relationships and coordinate vendors for student programming.
  • Liaison between offices within Campus Life to create collaborative partnerships, open communication, and enhance student offerings. 

Student Government Association Advising (15%)

  • Advise the Student Government Association (SGA), including individual student advising and attendance at relevant SGA events and meetings. 
  • Assist with the review, mark-up, and signature of contracts for all student organizations.

Student Organization Support & Platform Administration (15%) 

  •  Advise the Student Government Association (SGA), including individual student advising and   attendance at relevant SGA events and meetings.
  • Assist with the review, mark-up, and signature of contracts for all student organizations. 

Leadership Development & Educational Programming (10%) 

  • Collaborate with other offices and departments to support student leadership education programs.
  • Assist with the staffing of special programs in collaboration with other SILT entities.

Budget Management (10%) 

  • Oversee and manage a department programming budget.

Program Evaluation & Continuous Improvement (10%) 

  • Evaluate the success and/or impact of events and programs.
  • Maintain required records and documentation to support reporting and assessment. 

Student Engagement & Support (10%) 

  • Provide informal counseling and support to students on an ongoing basis.
  • Serve as a resource and mentor to students navigating leadership roles and involvement. 

Institutional Engagement & Administrative Responsibilities (5%) 

  • Attend bi-weekly staff meetings and monthly Campus Life meetings. 
  • Participate in consistent 1-on-1 meetings with supervisor. 
  • Serve on departmental, divisional, or university committees or task forces as requested. 
  • Perform other related duties as assigned. 

The work schedule includes nights and weekends with an adjusted work schedule, and the candidate must have a valid driver’s license and an insurable driving record. 

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Demonstrated leading and implementing large scale programs. Demonstrated experience with public speaking, teaching, and/or facilitation. 
  • Knowledge and application of student development theories with an emphasis on student programming, and diversity and inclusion. 
  • Demonstrates experience with and/or commitment to fostering respectful, collaborative environments; effectively communicates across cultural and individual differences; and engages with others in a manner that reflects openness, empathy, and self-awareness.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills. Ability to work autonomously and demonstrate strong initiative. 
  • Demonstrates strong organizational skills. Demonstrates flexibility with varied work situations.  

NOTE: This role will be granted the opportunity to work from home regularly but must be able to commute to Emory University on a flexible weekly schedule based upon business needs.  Schedule is based on agreed upon guidelines of department. This role requires residency in the state of GA. Emory reserves the right to change remote work status with notice to employee
