Description

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Reports to a principal investigator of sponsored projects.
  • Exercises considerable latitude and independent judgment in overseeing the day-to-day operation of the research core.
  • Serves as a consultant and provides technical expertise in scientific theory, research and methods of collection and analysis of data sets for a variety of research projects.
  • Using an advanced knowledge of research methodology and techniques, provides leadership in the planning and development of survey instruments, guidelines, and procedures to collect required data.
  • Coordinates various aspects of the study.
  • Routinely develops research protocols.
  • Reviews and edits text for studies.
  • Conducts extensive literature searches and effectively summarizes reported research findings and their applicability to the research.
  • Coordinates research and intervention activities with the team.
  • Provides direction to consultants and team members.
  • Coordinates and conducts special meetings.
  • Develops and conducts presentations, represents Emory at national meetings, and co-authors publications.
  • Collaborates on or authors reports and papers.
  • Performs related responsibilities as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master's degree in Public Health, Epidemiology, Biostatistics, Sociology, Psychology or a related discipline and five or more years of research/professional experience, OR equivalent combination of experience, education, and training.
  • Effective writing, analytic, presentation and organizational skills.
  • Experience managing and executing multiple projects and working with senior health policy makers and executives is preferred.
  • Experience conducting focus groups.

The Senior Research Administrator serves as the Project Director for the Sleep Epidemiology Research Group (SERG), providing comprehensive leadership and operational oversight across all research activities. This role requires a highly organized, detail-oriented professional who can manage multiple complex research projects simultaneously while maintaining the highest standards of scientific rigor and regulatory compliance.

 

Research Protocol and Operations Management

  • Protocol Development: Write comprehensive research protocols for new and ongoing studies
  • Standard Operating Procedures: Develop and maintain Manuals of Operation (MOPs) for all research activities
  • Protocol Compliance: Monitor and ensure adherence to study protocols across all active research projects
  • Study Coordination: Organize and facilitate research meetings with internal and external teams
  • External Communications: Serve as primary liaison with collaborating institutions and research partners
  • Community programming: Develop and manage community outreach and programming.

Grant and Funding Support

  • Grant Writing Assistance: Collaborate on grant applications
  • Funding Opportunity Identification: Research and identify relevant grant opportunities for the research group
  • Budget Collaboration: Work with grant managers to develop project budgets and track expenses
  • Monthly Financial Reviews: Meet monthly with grant manager to monitor expenses across all active studies

Data and Sample Management

  • Sample Logistics: Coordinate shipping and handling of biological samples and research materials
  • Inventory Management: Maintain comprehensive study inventory systems and supply ordering
  • Data Pipeline Oversight: Ensure proper data collection, storage, and processing procedures

Staff Leadership and Supervision

  • Staff Oversight: Supervise project coordinators across multiple research studies
  • Team Training: Provide training and ongoing support to research staff
  • Recruitment Leadership: Lead participant recruitment efforts across all active studies

Actigraphy Core Leadership

As the leader of the Actigraphy Core, you will oversee all aspects of sleep data collection and processing:

Project Management

  • Request Processing: Evaluate and process requests for actigraphy services
  • Budget Development: Collaborate with grant manager to develop accurate budget estimates for actigraphy components
  • Staffing Coordination: Ensure adequate staffing levels for all actigraphy projects

Technical Operations

  • MOP Development: Write comprehensive Manuals of Operation for actigraphy data collection
  • Staff Training: Train external research team members in actigraphy procedures and protocols
  • Quality Assurance: Conduct weekly reviews of study folders for new actigraphy data
  • Data Management: Upload data to servers, manage scoring pipeline, and maintain data tracking systems
  • Status Reporting: Record data status in REDCap and alert scoring teams when data is ready for analysis

Scholarly and Communication Activities

Research Publications

  • Manuscript Development: Assist with manuscript preparation and writing
  • Data Analysis Support: Work on manuscripts utilizing study data from group projects
  • Publication Tracking: Maintain comprehensive tracking system for all group manuscripts and publications

Digital Presence and Communications

  • Website Management: Maintain and update the research group website
  • Professional Communications: Represent the research group in external communications and collaborations

NOTE: Position tasks are generally required to be performed in-person at an Emory University location. Remote work from home day options may be granted at department discretion. Emory reserves the right to change remote work status with notice to employee.
