Description

JOB DESCRIPTION:

  • Maintains athletic fields for various sports.
  • Operates a reel mower, tractor, power-spray unit and skid steer loader.
  • May use other grounds equipment such as trimmers, edgers and backpack and street blowers.
  • Applies fertilizers, herbicides and pesticides to turf areas.
  • Adheres to OSHA standards, and other applicable federal and state regulations when working with hazardous chemicals, materials and power equipment.
  • Uses personal protective equipment as required.
  • May drive utility vehicles to and from work sites.
  • Performs related responsibilities as required.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Knowledge of turf pests-identification of pests, diagnosis of diseases, diagnosis of nutrient deficiencies, and the ability to prescribe acceptable control or treatment measures.
  • Must know and understand calibration of equipment used to apply products both liquid and granular.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Two years of experience operating multi-gang reel mowers or related equipment in an athletic field or golf course environment.
  • Knowledge of basic turf care principles of fertilization, aeration, mowing and pest control.
  • A valid Georgia driver's license and an insurable driving record.
  • A Category 24 Pesticide License or the ability to obtain one within six months.
  • Some positions within this classification may require the ability to lift 50 pounds and to bend, stoop and twist.

NOTE: Position tasks are required to be performed in-person at an Emory University location; working remote is not an option. Emory reserves the right to change this status with notice to employee.
