The Shin lab in the Department of Microbiology and Immunology is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented full-time Research Specialist Technician to join our team. We are a newly established lab focused on investigating gene regulation in T cells, integrating approaches from molecular biology, immunology, and developmental biology.

 

This is a unique opportunity to contribute to both the setup of a new research lab and the advancement of exciting scientific questions at the interface of multiple disciplines.

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Under general supervision, performs a variety of defined research and laboratory tests and experiments according to prescribed protocols and assigned schedules.
• Sets up experiments as prescribed by a principal investigator.
• May be required to participate in laboratory maintenance activities such as sterilization and cleaning of equipment, ordering of supplies, inventory and media preparation.
• Maintains records, files and logs of work performed in laboratory notebooks and computer databases.
• Compiles data and records results of studies for publications, grants and seminar presentations.
• Employees in this classification may be required to work with, take specific precautions against and/or be immunized against potentially hazardous agents.
• Performs related responsibilities as required by principal investigator.

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES: 

• Perform and maintain cell culture experiments
  
• Conduct flow cytometry analysis and assist in data acquisition
  
• Perform molecular biology experiments, including PCR and cloning
• Assist with mouse colony maintenance (approximately 30–50 cages for the next 6 months)
  
• Support and conduct mouse experiments, following approved protocols
  
• Manage lab supply ordering and help maintain inventory and organization
  
• Contribute to the day-to-day operations and ensure lab compliance with safety protocols

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

• Bachelor's degree in a scientific field OR equivalent combination of experience, education, and training.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• Prior lab experience is preferred, especially in any of the listed techniques
  
• Strong organizational and communication skills
  
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team
• Willingness to work with laboratory mice
