SUMMARY:
The Program Associate assists the River Blindness (RB), Lymphatic Filariasis (LF), Schistosomiasis (SCH) and Malaria (MAL) programs with various duties, including administrative and technical assistance for field activities; liaising with Carter Center program staff, other departments, and external stakeholders; assisting with program budgets, accounting, contracts, procurement, program reporting; meeting coordination; and maintaining direct communication with international offices to support activities and provide program oversight. May assist with the supervision of students and contractors. This Atlanta-based position requires some domestic and international travel.
This position will report to the Senior Program Associate, RB/LF/SCH/MAL program.
This position requires periodic international travel to African countries and re-entry into the United States, including to Ethiopia, Nigeria, and Uganda, with possible travel to Brazil, Chad, the Dominican Republic, Haiti, Madagascar, South Sudan, Sudan, and Venezuela. Completion of Hostile Environment Awareness Training (HEAT) is required.
JOB DESCRIPTION:
- Primary duty is organizing, coordinating, and planning operational facets of a global program and its related activities which include, but are not limited to the following: researching factors that may impact the success of the program, and working with individuals or groups to research and document program requirements in order to provide appropriate input.
- Assists the program in developing and managing work plans to accomplish goals and objectives. Serves as liaison with other departments, partners, groups and organizations participating in the program or seeking program information.
- Monitors and reports progress of objectives and goals of the program.
- Develops promotional materials/venues, manages relational databases, and establishes/forecasts budget requirements.
- Assists with developing annual program budgets, monitoring program expenses, and budget reporting by gathering, reviewing, verifying, and consolidating data.
- Monitors expenditures and may prepare financial reports; may assist in identifying funding resources and developing fund-raising strategies and initiatives.
- Assists with drafting, monitoring, and maintaining contracts. Maintains communication with contractors as well as an internal tracker for deliverables and invoices and keeps program staff updated on contract status.
- Maintains accurate, up-to-date treatment data from monthly country reports in the program’s data system. Assists in program data-keeping and tracking.
- Conducts training, represents the program at international meetings and conferences, and networks with affiliated groups, and may assist with procuring supplies and equipment.
- May write or develop reports, speeches, briefings, newsletters, promotional materials, grants or other written materials related to the program.
- Conducts research and gathers accurate information to develop various publications.
- Acts as liaison to the Emory Institutional Review Board (IRB) and other ethical review committees in preparation, submission, and maintaining IRB clearance for research, surveys, and other studies conducted by the program. Updates IRB protocols, including protocol modifications, continuing reviews, and study close-outs.
- Keeps abreast of grant reporting requirements and schedules and informs program staff of approaching deadlines. Assists in the submission of grant proposals and reports.
- May supervise or direct administrative tasks of interns and students and oversee contractors.
- Ensures compliance with all organizational policies and procedures.
- Maintains personal and professional growth and development by identifying educational/training programs, professional organizations, activities, and resources to maintain a knowledge of national trends and to promote leading-edge expertise.
- Performs related responsibilities as required. This is not an administrative support position.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor's degree in a field related to the program and two years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Demonstrated motivation, professional demeanor, and ability to work effectively both independently and collaboratively.
- Master of Public Health or related field is desirable.
- Public health-related experience, particularly in an international setting.
- Fluency in French, Spanish, Arabic, or Amharic would be an asset.
- Familiarity with neglected tropical diseases.
- Experience with program design, monitoring, and evaluation.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (SharePoint, Word, Excel, PowerPoint). - Strong data analysis skills.
- Strong writing and communication skills.
- Detail-oriented and organized.
NOTE: This role will be granted the opportunity to work from home regularly but must be able to commute to The Carter Center on a flexible weekly schedule based upon business needs. Schedule is based on agreed upon guidelines. All non-exempt employees must reside within the state of Georgia.
