This position functions as a highly skilled contributor/researcher by demonstrating advanced knowledge in the areas of computational / informatics techniques, research and methods of analyzing data from experimental platforms.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Satisfies leadership responsibilities on project components and may design, develop, and conduct research experiments.
- Provides workflow direction to staff, oversees quality and training of team members, and serves as a mentor to junior staff.
- With the approval of the responsible Emory faculty director, the AI Scientist/Engineer IV may serve as the co-principal investigator on funded (grant) proposals or principal investigator of internal seed awards.
- Independently performs project management / lab management duties.
- Uses modern programming languages running on UN*X (Unix-like) operating systems with best practices such as version control, unit tests, and comments.
- Works with sensitive data in secure environments and adheres to legal frameworks that govern the data (e.g., HIPAA-compliance).
- Designs and maintains study databases (including relational databases and data lakes) to satisfy research project needs.
- Creates and maintains documentation of new and existing analysis pipelines to facilitate knowledge transfer.
- May collaborate with on-premises computing professionals to configure and maintain physical systems, if needed.
- May supervise undergraduate and graduate trainees.
- Performs related responsibilities as required.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- A PhD degree and five years of experience OR a master's degree and eight years of experience OR a bachelor's degree and 10 years of experience.
- Desired experience includes machine learning, AI, informatics or related experience.
- Preferred degrees include mathematics, statistics, computer science, artificial intelligence, informatics, engineering, or a related field.
NOTE: This role will be granted the opportunity to work from home regularly but must be able to commute to Emory University location as needed and at times, on short notice. Emory reserves the right to change this status with notice to employee.
