Description

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assists in coordinating routine activities associated with a research project to include data maintenance, grant expenditure adherence, project evaluation, meeting scheduling, research subject interfacing, light clerical duties and control of equipment and supplies.
  • May review literature for related research developments and techniques, compile findings and generate reports.
  • May serve as project liaison to other departments, outside organizations, government agencies and product representatives.
  • May supervise other staff.
  • Performs related responsibilities as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree in a science discipline, business management, or related field OR equivalent combination of experience, education, and training.

ADDITIONAL JOB DETAILS: 

  • We are seeking a skilled Research Administrative Coordinator to join our team. In this position, you will screen samples collected noninvasively from wild primates for a variety of zoonotic pathogens.
  • Internal candidates with experience using molecular methods to noninvasively screen wild primates for pathogens are preferred. This position is under the supervision of Dr. Thomas Gillespie, Chair, Department of Environmental Sciences.
  • Conduct tests according to standard procedures 
  • Record and analyze data accurately
  • Maintain lab equipment
  • Prepare samples and reagents
  • Follow safety protocols and maintain a clean lab environment
  • Maintain sample inventory and ensure proper storage and documentation
  • Manage data, ensuring accurate entry, storage, and retrieval of experimental results
  • Supervise and mentor students working in the lab, ensuring adherence to protocols and safety guidelines  

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Environmental Science, Biology, Chemistry, or related science field required
  • Master of Public Health degree required
  • 2-5 years of experience in molecular lab environment  
  • Proficiency in DNA and RNA extraction, cDNA synthesis, PCR, and gel electrophoresis 
  • Strong data management skills  
  • Strong knowledge of screening techniques, including an understanding of proper sample handling, use, storage and disposal  

NOTE: Position tasks are generally required to be performed in-person at an Emory University location.  Remote work from home day options may be granted at department discretion. Emory reserves the right to change remote work status with notice to employee.
