Description

JOB DESCRIPTION:

  • Under the supervision of the Director, the Climate and Sustainability Program Coordinator manages key programs and activities and contributes to the operation of Emory's Office of Sustainability Initiatives (OSI) with a focus on student engagement. 
  • Provides leadership on climate and sustainability data gathering and reporting as well as contributes to communications, marketing, and engagement efforts that advance Emory's sustainability efforts across the enterprise (University and Healthcare).
  • Facilitates the completion of Emory's annual greenhouse gas emissions (GHG) inventory and related surveys, from data collection to output analysis.
  • Conducts necessary research and participates in relevant working groups to further Emory's understanding and calculation of scope 3 emissions.
  • Grows and maintains Emory's knowledge of the carbon offsets global landscape and works toward establishing an offsets program for Emory-sponsored air travel that has local and social justice benefits.
  • Establishes or improves data collection systems and assists OSI with data collection and the organization of information and submissions for annual reporting for Emory's memberships in AASHE STARS, The Listening Post and Ivy+, Climate Leadership Network, United Nations Race to Zero and other institutional commitments.
  • Takes the initiative to develop programs that engage Emory's graduate and undergraduate student population in all nine units of the University.
  • In partnership with the Director, supports the administrative and programmatic operation of OSI's internship program, including recruiting and hiring interns, onboarding, assigning tasks and activities, facilitating meetings, and other tasks as needed.
  • Provides leadership and coordination of special events in which OSI has a leadership role or independent participation (e.g., student orientation, Earth Month).
  • Represents the sustainability initiative at school-wide forums and area sustainability committees, initiates and maintains relationships, and serves as a liaison with various campus, local, and national groups.
  • Assists in responding to requests for participation in campus activities (e.g., class lectures, student organization events, etc).
  • Contributes to OSI's communications and marketing efforts, including, writing articles, developing social media content, and supporting layout and design of reports and other deliverables.
  • Plans and leads meetings, identifies priorities, delegates action items, manages campaigns and outcomes, and communicates with team about campus-wide efforts.
  • Contributes to Office of Sustainability Initiatives strategy, communications, and programmatic efforts.
  • Performs other related duties as required.

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  • A master's degree and one year of sustainability-related experience, OR an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Three years of experience is preferred.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, project management, outreach and presentation skills.
  • Experience with website and communications management, demonstrated proficiency in social media and willingness to learn and expand existing skillsets.
  • Proficiency with MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint and a desire to learn additional software as needed.
  • A demonstrated interest in and knowledge of justice, equity, diversity and inclusion, as it relates to advancing sustainability.

NOTE: This role will be granted the opportunity to work from home regularly but must be able to commute to Emory University on a flexible weekly schedule based upon business needs. Schedule is based on agreed upon guidelines of department. This role requires residency in the state of GA. Emory reserves the right to change remote work status with notice to employee.
