Description

The Coordinator of Sorority and Fraternity Life is a live-in professional staff member within the Office of Sorority and Fraternity Life (OSFL) who supports the advancement, growth, and sustainability of Emory University’s sorority and fraternity community. The coordinator works closely with undergraduate
leaders, alumni advisors, and campus partners to promote a safe, inclusive, and values-based fraternal experience that aligns with the university’s mission and student development priorities. The Emory sorority and fraternity community is comprised of four governing councils: the Interfraternity Council (11 chapters), Multicultural Greek Council (6 chapters), National Pan-Hellenic Council (6 chapters), and Panhellenic Council (8 chapters).


This position contributes to student learning and leadership development by supporting the department’s learning goals: fostering a sense of belonging, developing a deeper understanding of self and others, promoting individual and social responsibility, and encouraging intellectual engagement beyond the
classroom. The coordinator also plays a critical role in supporting harm reduction initiatives, policy education, and risk management efforts that promote student well-being and community accountability.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  • Advise two of Emory’s four governing councils (EPC and MGC) by providing leadership
    development, organizational guidance, and strategic planning support to student leaders
  • Conduct regular developmental one-on-one meetings with council and chapter leaders to
    support leadership growth, accountability, and organizational effectiveness
  • Coordinate departmental assessment efforts to evaluate the effectiveness of programs,
    initiatives, and community outcomes within the sorority and fraternity community
  • Develop and maintain strong partnerships with chapter advisors, alumni, (inter)national
    organizations, and other stakeholders to support chapter success and sustainability
  • Support chapter advisors and student leaders by providing guidance, resources, and intervention
    strategies that promote healthy chapter operations and risk reduction
  • Provide oversight, coordination, and education related to recruitment and intake processes to
    ensure alignment with institutional policies and community expectations
  • Assist with the planning and implementation of leadership development programs, educational
    initiatives, and community-wide events designed to support student engagement and
    development
  • Maintain expense records and assist with budgeting for assigned councils and departmental
    initiatives
  • Serve as a member of the professional staff on-call rotation, providing 24-hour crisis response
    and student support when needed

ADDITIONAL JOB DETAILS: 

  • Collaborate with the Office of Student Conduct on cases involving members of the sorority and
    fraternity community, including providing context, advising student leaders, and supporting
    educational outcomes
  • Partner with campus departments to provide educational programming related to leadership
    development, community accountability, and student well-being
  • Represent the Office of Sorority and Fraternity Life by serving on university committees and
    campus initiatives
  • Assist with the coordination and implementation of community-wide signature events and
    leadership experiences
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support the mission and operations of the department

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A bachelor's degree and two years of relevant, professional experience; a master's degree with relevant experience is preferred.
  • Demonstrated knowledge in the areas of student development, program coordination, crisis response, student leader advisement, leadership development, and conflict management. Cultural competency and an ability to work with a diverse population.
  • Evidence of strong advising skills and experience in policy and enforcement in a sorority and fraternity setting.
  • Experience creating policies, practices, and procedures for sorority and fraternity life. Sensitivity to student needs and the ability to relate on many different levels to a diverse community of students, faculty, administrative staff, employers, parents, and community contacts.
  • Effective communication, writing, presentation, facilitation, and organizational skills.

NOTE: Position tasks are generally required to be performed in-person at an Emory University location.  Remote work from home day options may be granted at department discretion. Emory reserves the right to change remote work status with notice to employee.
