POSITION SUMMARY: 
The Senior Clinical Business Manager provides strategic and operational leadership for clinical, financial, and administrative functions supporting one or more Internal Medicine divisions based at Grady Memorial Hospital. Reporting to the Administrator of Grady Operations, this role partners closely with Division Directors, Section Chiefs, and Division Administrators to ensure efficient, compliant, and high-performing clinical operations.

 

This position serves as a key liaison between Emory and Grady stakeholders—including faculty, staff, hospital administration, and the Office of Clinical Affairs—and is accountable for managing complex budgets, optimizing revenue cycle performance, and enhancing faculty productivity and engagement.

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  • Plans, coordinates, and is accountable for major departmental divisions/sub-units administrative and clinical activities including grants and contracts, budget development and planning for total budgets of $4 million or greater, financial analysis, data processing operations, and human resources management for a division or other department sub-unit with teaching, research and clinical service responsibilities.
  • Reports directly to the Division or Unit Director and indirectly to the Department Administrator and Chair.
  • Performs other responsibilities as assigned.

SPECIFIC DETAILS: 

1. Clinical Operations Management

  • Analyze and monitor provider productivity, including wRVUs, patient volumes, and access metrics.
  • Evaluate physician deployment strategies, ensuring alignment of FTEs, schedules, and compensation distribution.
  • Track and assess clinical quality indicators in collaboration with Grady Section Chiefs.
  • Partner with clinic managers and service leadership to identify and resolve operational challenges.
  • Develop and deliver ad hoc reports supporting research, clinical productivity, credentialing, and operational decisions.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives to optimize clinic efficiency and patient experience.

2. Financial & Revenue Cycle Management

  • Develop, manage, and forecast divisional budgets (≥$4M), ensuring financial sustainability and alignment with strategic goals.
  • Perform monthly financial analysis, trending, and variance reporting for Grady-related accounts.
  • Partner with OneGrady professional fee billing to improve revenue cycle performance, including charge capture, coding, and collections.
  • Review and interpret reports and billing analytics.
  • Ensure compliance with billing, regulatory, and institutional requirements.
  • Oversee financial transactions including journal entries, purchasing, expense approvals, payment requests, and retroactive salary transfers.
  • Provide actionable financial insights to Division leadership to support decision-making.

3. Human Resources & Faculty Affairs

  • Lead workforce planning efforts, including vacancy tracking and recruitment coordination.
  • Oversee onboarding processes for faculty and staff in collaboration with Section Chiefs, Division staff and HR partners.
  • Support faculty engagement initiatives and partner with leadership to implement action plans addressing engagement or performance gaps.
  • Manage faculty time reporting (FTR) and ensure compliance with institutional requirements.
  • Monitor compliance with infection control and mandatory training requirements.
  • Serve as an administrative representative at faculty meetings and leadership forums.
  • Provide supervision and mentorship to division staff, as applicable.

4. Credentialing & Provider Enrollment

  • Coordinate with Grady Medical Affairs, Credentialing, and Emory System Credentialing offices.
  • Track and manage provider credentialing lifecycle events including appointments, reappointments, and resignations.
  • Ensure timely completion of credentialing and enrollment processes to avoid disruptions in clinical activity.

5. Relationship Management & Leadership

  • Serve as the primary liaison between Emory and Grady stakeholders for assigned divisions.
  • Build strong, collaborative relationships with physicians, administrators, and operational teams.
  • Facilitate communication across departments to ensure alignment on priorities and initiatives.
  • Promote a culture of accountability, service excellence, and continuous improvement.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A bachelor's degree in business, finance or related science field and five years of professional business or management experience OR an equivalent combination of education, training, and/or experience.
  • Previous supervisory experience.
  • Experience in a clinical setting preferred.

PREFFERED QUALIFICATIONS 

  • Experience in an academic medical center or complex clinical environment.
  • Knowledge of physician practice management and healthcare revenue cycle operations.
  • Familiarity with budgeting, and fiscal management.
  • Experience with EPIC, Qgenda, and Microsoft Office Products.

NOTE: This role will be granted the opportunity to work from home regularly but must be able to commute to Emory University on a flexible weekly schedule based upon business needs.  Schedule is based on agreed upon guidelines of department. This role requires residency in the state of GA. Emory reserves the right to change remote work status with notice to employee.
