Description

Reporting to the School of Medicine (SOM) Chief Operating Officer (COO), the Executive Administrator for Space and Facilities Administration is a subject matter expert in space and facilities who proactively partners with key senior leaders in the SOM, University, and Woodruff Health Sciences to further the space and facilities strategies and priorities of the institution.

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Serves as the primary space and facilities executive for the SOM who directs the overall coordination and management of space administered by the SOM and promotes its education, research, and service missions.
  • Develops a school-wide space strategy, including evaluating current space conditions, utilization, best use, and need, and then implements the strategy through collaboration with institutional leadership and direction of the SOM space and facilities team.
  • Works with SOM leadership to implement space changes, including upgrades, moves, and reallocation.
  • Leads research to justify the need for new academic buildings.
  • Oversees the operational management and maintenance of all SOM facilities, including state-of-the-art research facilities, and coordinates with the governing groups.
  • Directs and manages the processes and projects to ensure accurate representation of SOM space, including surveys and space walks.
  • Models and ensures a strong customer service environment within the SOM space and facilities team.
  • Works closely with Department Chairs and Administrators to resolve controversial space issues.
  • Develops and provides continuous improvement on SOM space management program, including regular updates to SOM policies and standard operating procedures related to space.
  • Directs the development of information technology systems for space reporting and visualization.
  • Represents the SOM perspective in maintaining current and choosing new University space management tools.
  • Partners with Space Planning and Construction leadership at Emory University and in Woodruff Health Sciences in the planning, acquisition, renovation, and management of SOM space.
  • Partners with University Real Estate and SOM leadership to manage SOM leased space.
  • Hires, trains, supervises and evaluates staff on the space and facilities team.
  • Performs related responsibilities as required.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A bachelor's degree in Engineering, Architecture or a related field and ten years of experience in facilities and space management, preferably in a research/academic environment.
  • An equivalent combination of education, training and experience may be considered.
  • Direct supervisory or managerial experience.
  • Strong communication skills and proficiency with Excel and report writing.

NOTE: Position tasks are generally required to be performed in-person at an Emory University location.  Remote work from home day options may be granted at department discretion. Emory reserves the right to change remote work status with notice to employee.
