Reporting to and working in close collaboration with the Associate Vice Provost for University Financial Aid, the Executive Director of Financial Aid manages the unique needs of the Office of Financial Aid (OFA) and the Student Accounts and Billing Office (SABO).
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Remains informed of federal and state program and compliance initiatives, routinely leverages the use of data, and works in a mode of continuous improvement and cooperation.
- Evaluates programs and modifies priorities to meet best practice standards as needed and appropriate for Emory.
- Manages the major HR components and transactions including the recruitment and annual compensation review for both offices.
- Manages both short and long-term goals of offices and oversees all necessary implementations.
- Advances the office's strategic plan(s) via effective change management.
- Cultivates an environment of open dialogue with individual office teams/managers to foster improved collaboration to facilitate better risk mitigation and improved efficiency.
- Oversees standardized/detailed operations plan(s) and centralizing documentation of each office's activities.
- Identifies the impact of existing systems and policies and procedures caused by federal/state regulatory changes; consults with managers to plan required changes; oversees system implementation; and delegates the update and maintenance of policies.
- Directs the ongoing information security activities of office including identification of risks, creation of mitigating solutions, and implementation of improvements.
- Leverages the use of data and works in a mode of continuous improvement.
- Spearheads periodic IT risk assessments with Enterprise Security.
- Directs development of all training collateral and delivery, and ensures policies and procedures are maintained and updated in a timely manner.
- Directs all cross-training efforts and program responsibilities.
- Communicates compliance needs, risks, and strengths to university leadership in development of strategies.
- Directs the Office of Financial Aid, managing all facets of compliance, file review, and awarding processes.
- Ensures federal, state, and institutional funds and programs are managed according to guidelines and policies.
- Oversees federal verification, Satisfactory Academic Progress, loan certification processing, student eligibility and professional judgment policies, and fund disbursements.
- Oversees federal requirements for all consumer information.
- Oversees audit functions, including A-133 Federal audit.
- Directs the Student Accounts and Billing Office, managing all facets of compliance, collection of tuition/fee revenue, and reporting of tuition/fee revenue to the Division of Finance.
- Oversees the administration of institutional and campus-based loans, development and the administration of the university bad-debt policy, university Holds policies, third-party billing, and the university Courtesy Scholarship program.
- Oversees the annual generation of IRS Form 1098-T.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- A bachelors degree and 10 years of progressively responsible financial aid experience.
- Extensive experience in PeopleSoft (OPUS) Financial Aid and Enrollment modules.
NOTE: This role will be granted the opportunity to work from home regularly but must be able to commute to Emory University on a flexible weekly schedule based upon business needs. Schedule is based on agreed upon guidelines of department. This role requires residency in the state of GA. Emory reserves the right to change remote work status with notice to employee.
