Description

Reporting to the Vice Provost for Institutional Equity and Compliance, the Director and University Title IX Coordinator serves as the University's subject matter expert on Title IX implementation and has ultimate responsibility for compliance with Title IX, the Violence Against Women Act (VAWA), the Campus Sexual Violence Elimination (SaVE) Act, and other related federal and state laws and regulations.

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  • Monitors the campus climate to identify opportunities for improvement and to ensure that the University has adequate resources and grievance procedures for students, faculty, and staff in resolving complaints under Title IX.
  • Oversees investigations of Title IX complaints and collaborates with campus offices and partners including the Office of the General Counsel, the Office of Campus Life, the Emory Police Department, Human Resources, various Deans' offices, the Office of the Provost, and others.
  • Oversees the University's Title IX efforts including college-wide education, training, and outreach programming related to gender equity, as well as compliance with statutory and regulatory requirements.
  • Serves as a subject matter expert for all constituencies on the wide range of issues addressed by Title IX and the Clery Act including, but not limited to, sexual harassment, sexual violence, intimate partner violence, and stalking.
  • Oversees investigations, responses, and resolutions to complaints, to include supervision of investigators.
  • Ensures all investigators, advisors, and decision-makers involved in the University's response and reporting processes are appropriately and regularly trained.
  • Assures that all investigations are conducted in a fair, timely, impartial, and thorough manner and that appropriate records of reports and investigations are maintained.
  • Supervises staff, which includes work allocation, training, promotion and enforcement of internal procedures and controls, and problem resolution.
  • Evaluates performance and makes recommendations for personnel actions.
  • Motivates employees to achieve peak productivity and performance.
  • Trains and oversees designated Deputy Title IX Coordinators across critical areas of the institution.
  • Ensures investigators, adjudicators and those involved with processing Title IX complaints are adequately trained in compliance with Title IX guidance.
  • Stays abreast of national trends related to as well as changes within Title IX, and related state and federal laws and regulations; monitors the University's policies and procedures, accordingly.
  • Leads the review and revision process for the Title IX Policy on a regular basis or as needed to comply with federal or state laws and regulations.
  • Maintains and oversees case management database to organize, manage and track incidents.
  • Prepares statistical reports.
  • Tracks cases, data, and trends to identify patterns and makes recommendations to address any patterns or systemic problems revealed by reports and complaints.
  • Facilitates the ongoing assessment of the impact of education, training, and outreach efforts related to Title IX.
  • Performs related responsibilities as required. 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master's degree and five years of progressively responsible experience which includes Title IX compliance administration, complaint resolution and investigation of grievances and/or related policy administration experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
  • A JD or other related advanced degree is strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of and ability to interpret Title IX and other non-discrimination laws and regulations.
  • Administrative experience in higher education or a non-profit organization is desirable.
  • Strong organizational, planning, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent oral and written communications skills.
  • Excellent listening skills and experience facilitating difficult conversations with and among a wide range of constituencies.
  • The ability to exercise sound judgment and maintain a clear and steady commitment to the highest and best principles, particularly when faced with complex, ambiguous, and highly charged situations.
  • A high degree of discretion and the ability to maintain confidential information.
  • The ability to build rapport, develop allies, and influence cross-departmental and cross divisional action to enhance equity in the Emory University campus community.

NOTE: Position tasks are generally required to be performed in-person at an Emory University location.  Remote work from home day options may be granted at department discretion. Emory reserves the right to change remote work status with notice to employee.
