Works as part of the Cancer Tissue and Pathology Shared Resource in the Winship Cancer Institute. This position will support preparation and processing of specimens associated with research project requests, as well as assist with immunohistochemistry processing requests. Primary responsibilities include specimen handling and identification, cutting of frozen sections using a cryostat, H&E staining, paraffin block embedding, slide printing, manual special stains, equipment cleaning and maintenance.
Working knowledge of general principles of histology is required. This position provides histopathological services to Winship investigators, thus demonstrated customer service skills a plus. In addition, successful candidates will exhibit precise attention to detail, adaptability, professionalism, along with excellent time management skills and ability to perform well under pressure with a large work volume.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: A high school diploma or equivalent. Completion of a one year program in histologic techniques. Certified as a Histology Technician (HT) by the American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP) or certification eligible.
