JOB DESCRIPTION: Provides career counseling services to undergraduate students, graduate students and alumni. Provides information to students on topics that affect career opportunities and advancement such as job search strategies, educational and training opportunities, occupational outlook information, career enhancement materials and resume writing. Conducts workshops and programs on career planning and placement topics. Assists students in the development of resumes and makes recommendations for improvements. May administer and interpret a variety of career assessment inventories to assist students with career exploration and planning. May assist in creating or editing communications materials related to career planning and placement such as newsletters, catalogs, departmental brochures and fliers. Maintains records and files of all counseling sessions. Assists in developing, implementing and evaluating marketing programs to increase student awareness of and participation in career services programs. Maintains professional growth by participating in educational programs and professional organizations. Performs related responsibilities as required.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: A master's degree in psychology, counseling or a related field.
Provide career counseling to undergraduate students in the Departments of Biology, Neuroscience and Behavioral Biology, Chemistry, and Human Health who are not seeking to enroll in medical school. Conduct workshops and programs on topics including career exploration, resume creation, cover letters, networking, and interviewing. Counsel students with skill building as it relates to the internship/job/research search process. Create or edits communications materials related to career planning. Maintain records and files of all advising sessions. Assist in the development, implementation, and evaluation of marketing programs to increase student awareness of and participation in career center services and resources. Provide generalist career counseling to first and second year students. Contribute to the broader Career Center initiatives, events, programs, and services. Maintains professional growth by participating in educational programs and professional organizations. Reporting to the Director of College Career Services, will be afforded the opportunity to develop new or unique programs and services consistent with professional interests and skills
Job will require some evening and weekend commitments.
Preferred Qualifications: three years full-time experience in a pure counseling/advising setting with focus on the science-related professions.
