JOB DESCRIPTION: Provides career counseling services to undergraduate students, graduate students and alumni. Provides information to students on topics that affect career opportunities and advancement such as job search strategies, educational and training opportunities, occupational outlook information, career enhancement materials and resume writing. Conducts workshops and programs on career planning and placement topics. Assists students in the development of resumes and makes recommendations for improvements. May administer and interpret a variety of career assessment inventories to assist students with career exploration and planning. May assist in creating or editing communications materials related to career planning and placement such as newsletters, catalogs, departmental brochures and fliers. Maintains records and files of all counseling sessions. Assists in developing, implementing and evaluating marketing programs to increase student awareness of and participation in career services programs. Maintains professional growth by participating in educational programs and professional organizations. Performs related responsibilities as required.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: A master's degree in psychology, counseling or a related field.
Provide career counseling to undergraduate students majoring in Computer Science. Conduct workshops and programs on topics including career exploration, resume creation, cover letters, networking, and interviewing. Counsel students with skill building as it relates to the internship/job/research search process. Create or edit communications materials related to career planning. Maintain records and files of all advising sessions. Assist in the development, implementation, and evaluation of marketing programs to increase student awareness of and participation in career center services and resources. Provide shared generalist career counseling to first and second year undeclared students. Engage with prospective employers to demonstrate value of the Emory CS degree. Maintain long-term relationships with CS alums to build pipelines into the technology industry. Contribute to the broader Career Center initiatives, events, programs, and services. Maintain professional growth by participating in educational programs and professional organizations. Working in collaboration with faculty and academic advisors, offer strategies for helping students determine their passions, and for pursuing and sustaining a lifelong career that will be challenging, competitive, rewarding.
Mange all social media, marketing, and outreach efforts for the Career Center. Create Career Center promotional material through print and on-line platforms. Maintain robust activity across center’s Twitter, Instagram, Pinterest, and Facebook accounts. Develop and maintain center’s webpages and presentation of content. Create video and podcast content. Provide guidance and direction in developing a long-term plan for technology resources and impact within the Career Center. Advise and train staff on optimal utilization of technology and relevant resources.
Reporting to the Director of College Career Services, will be afforded the opportunity to develop new or unique programs and services consistent with professional interests and skills. Perform related responsibilities as required.
Excellent communication skills to interface effectively with diverse pool of students, faculty and staff. Proficiency in social media and marketing tools including Adobe Creative Suite, Canva, Smore, Cascade, as well as competency in video-editing. Salary is commensurate with experience and qualifications.
Job will require limited evening and weekend commitments.
Preferred Qualifications: three years full-time experience in a counseling/advising setting with focus on the technology-related professions.
