    JOB DESCRIPTION: Oversees alumni solicitation and relations, major annual fund raising, donor acquisition programs, and public relations. Plans and coordinates special events and fund raising projects. Develops strategies for marketing new and existing programs. Researches donor histories and solicitation strategies. Writes and edits proposals and other promotional materials. Plans, administers, and monitors the department's budget. Designs and generates reports. May supervise staff. Performs related responsibilities as required.

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor's degree and three years experience in higher education, development, fund raising, or a related field.

    Additonal Details

    The Associate Director of Development for the Nell Hodgson Woodruff School of Nursing (SON) at Emory University is primarily responsible for the strategic execution and management of a comprehensive annual giving program utilizing a matrix of fundraising strategies with a goal to meet the growing needs of the institution and the donor. Success is measured by various metrics including activity, the total amount raised, growth in participation rates and giving levels, and an increase in donor attrition and new acquisition rates. The position serves as an integral team member of the school’s development & alumni relations team. He/she reports to the Associate Dean of Development and Alumni Relations at the School of Nursing and maintains close working relations with other development/alumni staff members within the university along with School of Nursing faculty and staff.


    Specific responsibilities include:

    • Goal of 120 annual visits and/or substantial distant contacts per year
    • Cultivates and solicits donors focused on annual lead gifts of $1,000+ building towards $10,000+
    • Builds strategies for identifying and moving annual giving donors to major and/or planned giving donors
    • Leads the strategy, volunteer leadership, and execution of group structured fundraising including: Emory’s faculty/staff campaign, student giving, legacy programming, reunion class giving, and Emory’s All in a Day crowdfunding (lead/challenge gifts)
    • Serves as lead liaison for central Office of Annual Giving (responsible for direct mail and tele-fund) to develop content, schedule, and analyze results.
    • Creates unit specific appeals and communication in partnership with alumni director as appropriate/needed
    • Committee lead for the Nurses Alumni Association (NAA)’s development committee focused on a peer-to-peer solicitation program and the Development Advisory Committee (school sanctioned committee with a goal to create a culture of philanthropy and effectively steward donor gifts)
    • Responsible for preparing and managing annual plans, annual giving goals and budgets for all annual giving activities
    • Continually evaluates current programming to determine best use of resources, to inform future strategy, to identify best practices, and to adjust annual plan accordingly
    • Regularly presents to employees, board members, external groups, and donors as appropriate to recruit, educate and engage volunteers and donors
    • Assists with writing and editing fundraising and stewardship collateral (direct mail, e-solicitations, stewardship reports, presentations, social media, etc.)
    • Identifies prospects and donors who want to engage with the school and partner with the alumni director to find appropriate fit

    • Ability to work cooperatively with a diverse staff and volunteer group to achieve a common goal

    • Ability to prioritize and recognize opportunities of greatest value and utilization of resources
