    JOB DESCRIPTION:

    • Serves as head of the costume shop for Theater Emory.
    • Performs costume construction, alterations and maintenance of costume shop and laundry room.
    • Supervises dress rehearsals, show wardrobe and laundry.
    • Establishes and maintains the budgets for productions, including allocating funds and labor to each project.
    • May instruct undergraduate students in theater-related courses.
    • Performs other related duties as required.


    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

    • A bachelor's degree in fine arts or a related field and two years of related experience.
    • Valid Georgia driver's license and an insurable driving record.
    • A master's degree is preferred.

    Additional Details

    Two years of related experience outside of a university MFA program preferred. 

     

    Key Responsibilities:

    1. Costume Construction: Creates patterns, millinery, masks, and accessories for period and modern garments for Theater Emory productions. Responsible for making all creative decisions in costume designer’s absence.
    2. Costume Shop Maintenance: Oversees the costume shop, laundry room, dressing rooms, and costume storage. Maintains the wardrobe for Theater Emory productions.
    3. Dress Rehearsals: Responsible for making all decisions regarding the organization and running of dress rehearsals for Theater Emory productions. Responsible for training students to act as wardrobe crew for Theater Emory productions.
    4. Supervision: Estimates labor needs for productions; hires, schedules, and supervises student labor and outside professionals as needed.
    5. Responsible for transportation of costumes and goods to and from various performing venues on campus, and to and from costume storage, as needed.
    6. Trains new work-study employees in advanced techniques in costume construction.
    7. Maintains show budgets and accountings; responsible for ordering shop goods, and specific items needed for shows.
    8. Performs related responsibilities as required, including coordinating and designing costumes for some productions.
    9. May instruct undergraduate students in Theater related courses.

     

    Working Conditions:

    Theater costume shop and other performance venues as needed.  Work schedule may fluctuate according to the requirements of each performance.
