    JOB DESCRIPTION:

     

    Manages internal and external communications efforts for a school or division, and provides communications perspective on initiatives and strategic planning. Produces executive communications and reports for divisional leadership. Directs the development of marketing, promotional, and communications strategies and policies to build awareness of division/school initiatives and priorities, and to serve various communications needs. Provides leadership on communications projects, ensuring that communications reflect divisional commitments, strategic priorities, and quality requirements. May oversee the division/school's website, as well as social media presence and activity. Evaluates the effectiveness of communication strategies across platforms and audiences. Oversees relationships with vendors and Emory service providers. May serve as spokesperson for the division/school, as appropriate. May manage a budget and staff. Performs related responsibilities as required.

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

     

    A bachelor's degree in communications, public relations, marketing, art or other related field. Six years of experience in the development of marketing and informational materials, writing/research, project management and/or information technology. Additional related experience may be considered in lieu of a degree. Knowledge of publishing and other related software. Demonstrated creativity in the design of marketing, public relations or educational programs and communications materials.

    Serves as chief communications officer for the Laney Graduate School (LGS). Directs all internal and external communications efforts, and provide communications perspective on LGS initiatives and strategic planning. Produces executive communications for the Dean of LGS, the Senior Associate Dean, and the LGS Executive Council. Directs the development of LGS marketing, promotional, and communications strategies and policies to build awareness of LGS initiatives and priorities, and to serve LGS communications needs. Evaluates the effectiveness of LGS communication strategies across platforms and audiences. Serves as spokesperson for LGS, as appropriate. Manages a budget and staff. Performs related responsibilities as required.

     

    Details

    • Participates in strategic planning discussions for which there is (or should be) a communications component.
    •  Coordinates with the Communications and Public Affairs division regarding pertinent university messaging, strategic communications planning, and issues management/crisis communications.Directs the development and maintenance of the LGS website, and directs LGS social media presence and activity.
    • Serves as principal LGS writer and editor, ensuring that written communications advance LGS strategic goals and reflect the LGS vision and mission
    • Serves as principal writer for correspondence, speeches, presentations and other executive communications delivered by the Dean of the LGS.
    • Serves as communications liaison to the LGS Executive Council, ensuring that their deliberations, decisions and policies are articulated effectively and accurately both to LGS constituents and among LGS staff and partners.
    • Provides leadership for LGS staff and constituents on communications projects, ensuring that communications reflect LGS commitments, strategic priorities, and quality requirements.
    • Advocates for LGS with University communications to ensure communications products for local and national distribution reflect LGS commitments, strategic priorities, and quality requirements.
    • Develops relationships with other Emory communicators to share Laney’s strategies and tactics to ensure coordination with other university efforts.
    • Directs interactions with communications vendors and Emory service providers to ensure that reliable and high quality communications are delivered in a timely and efficient manner.
    • Evaluates the effectiveness of LGS communications strategies, collateral materials, and outreach (may include surveys, focus groups).
    • Supervises Communications staff.
    • Other duties as assigned by the Vice Provost for Academic Affairs and Dean
