BACKGROUND: The Task Force for Global Health is an Emory University affiliate located in Decatur, GA. Its eight programs focus on building durable public health systems that serve all people. Focus areas include neglected tropical diseases, vaccines, and health systems strengthening. The Task Force received the 2016 Conrad N. Hilton Humanitarian Prize–the world's largest award of its kind–in recognition of its extraordinary contributions to alleviating human suffering.
JOB DESCRIPTION: Performs routine professional accounting duties requiring limited independent judgment. Monitors, audits and reconciles departmental accounts. Researches and creates new accounts and codes. Prepares journal transactions, balances accounts, reconciles errors and takes corrective action. Assists in the preparation and monitoring of departmental budgets. Advises management of cash deficits. Prepares audit schedules in support of internal and external audits. Maintains databases and assimilates financial and statistical data. Prepares routine operational and statistical reports. May assist with computer operations for the department. May maintain departmental grants and monitor petty cash activity. May coordinate invoice preparation, payables and/or receivables. Performs related responsibilities as required.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES: This is a key position on the Task Force (TF) Finance team. Core responsibilities are: Performs routine and complex accounting activities requiring knowledge of systems; exercises independent judgment in addressing accounting issues; oversees activity on various accounts; analyzes past and current data and prepares expense projections and operational forecasts; assists with audits; designs and generates routine ad hoc reports; assists with budgets; conceptualizes special projects and follows through; ensures that all accounting transactions are correctly supported and journalized for multiple currencies and geographies; reconciles TF bank accounts; supports the closing process for month-end and year-end; and ensure that policies and procedures are in accordance with GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles).
