    BACKGROUND: The Task Force for Global Health is an Emory University affiliate located in Decatur, GA. Its eight programs focus on building durable public health systems that serve all people. Focus areas include neglected tropical diseases, vaccines, and health systems strengthening. The Task Force received the 2016 Conrad N. Hilton Humanitarian Prize–the world's largest award of its kind–in recognition of its extraordinary contributions to alleviating human suffering.

     

    JOB DESCRIPTION: Performs routine professional accounting duties requiring limited independent judgment. Monitors, audits and reconciles departmental accounts. Researches and creates new accounts and codes. Prepares journal transactions, balances accounts, reconciles errors and takes corrective action. Assists in the preparation and monitoring of departmental budgets. Advises management of cash deficits. Prepares audit schedules in support of internal and external audits. Maintains databases and assimilates financial and statistical data. Prepares routine operational and statistical reports. May assist with computer operations for the department. May maintain departmental grants and monitor petty cash activity. May coordinate invoice preparation, payables and/or receivables. Performs related responsibilities as required.

     

    PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES: This is a key position on the Task Force (TF) Finance team. Core responsibilities are: Performs routine and complex accounting activities requiring knowledge of systems; exercises independent judgment in addressing accounting issues; oversees activity on various accounts; analyzes past and current data and prepares expense projections and operational forecasts; assists with audits; designs and generates routine ad hoc reports; assists with budgets; conceptualizes special projects and follows through; ensures that all accounting transactions are correctly supported and journalized for multiple currencies and geographies; reconciles TF bank accounts; supports the closing process for month-end and year-end; and ensure that policies and procedures are in accordance with GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles).

     

    The Position reports to the Financial Analyst.

    • Journal entry for multiple currencies and geographies based on complex transactions
    • Prepares and reconciles inter-program charges
      Monitors cash balances and reconciles bank accounts for various Task Force programs
    • Obtain invoices, review, code and reconcile any discrepancies and make entries in Financial Edge
    • Cut checks, obtain approved signatures and mail checks
    • Review consultant contract payments to ensure that payments are within the contract amount
    • Ensures A/P (Accounts Payable) and A/R (Accounts Receivable) entries are properly supported
    • Ensures quality data through financial analysis and investigation of discrepancies, working with vendors, donors and Program Staff for resolution
    • Supports the month-end and year-end closing process
    • Identifies and implements procedures and controls
    • Maintain all accounting records of the Facilities Team including Fixed Assets
    • In coordination with Program Staff, prepares and monitors the annual program budgets
    • Provides Program Managers support and underlying financial information detail and analysis including monthly comparative financial statements
    • Participates in preparation for the annual audit
    • Participates fully as a member of the Task Force for Global Health by contributing, assisting and participating
    • in projects, activities, and initiatives as requested by management.


    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

    • Bachelor's degree in accounting or a related field OR equivalent combination of experience, education, and training.
