Reporting to the Assistant Vice President for Health Sciences Communications, is responsible for developing and executing integrated communication initiatives related to health and medicine including strategic communications planning and implementation around the business of Health Sciences and the societal and economic impact of what it means to be a leading research university; this includes communication around research grants, rankings, and strategic faculty and research communications. Working collaboratively with Health Sciences leadership and within schools, departments, and divisions, works strategically to define the Communications team's print and digital strategy for advances in clinical care, medical education, and biomedical research and innovation. Applying rigorous analysis and data and with a goal of building a robust health communications strategy within the One Emory framework, works to enhance print, digital, news and social media content across targeted audiences, including alumni, donor, faculty, student, and external audiences. Works closely with the analytics team to develop and utilize key performance indicators in strategic communications planning and implementation. Collaboratively develops content solutions that result in multi-platform communications campaigns illustrating impact and solutions resulting from University and Health Sciences strategic initiatives. Is responsible for development and delivery of effective communications strategies and tactics for internal and external constituents. Leads the dissemination of accurate, positive and uniform information to targeted constituencies including the general public, media, patients, affiliated institutions, donors, alumni, and others to promote awareness of Emory University and Emory Healthcare's mission, contributions, and services. Works in tandem with Woodruff Health Science Center (WHSC) Department Chairs and the Assistant Vice President (AVP) to drive web and new media strategy, reputation and issues management, as well as support key communications needs regarding government affairs, fundraising, and marketing departments. Advises Emory and WHSC leadership on digital/print/social media communications strategy on issues related to research and research administration, grants, health-related legislative developments, and national health issues; participates in media training. Develops issues management strategy in consultation with AVP and Communications and Public Affairs (CPA). Contributes to content and related multimedia production related to research and the economic and societal impact of research and advances in health care. Develops measurements that reflect the success of the strategy and execution of the processes to drive it. Develops overarching media relations strategic plans; contributes to departmental plans. Tracks and reports on communications Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) relevant to research communications initiatives. Performs related responsibilities as required.
Bachelor's degree in a related field and seven years of professional journalism and/or media relations experience, including experience in a managerial capacity. Master's degree preferred. Demonstrated leadership in strategic communications, crisis communications and marketing communications in the health care or health sciences field with documented results. Demonstrated creative communications and business skills. Ability to conceptualize and articulate communications and marketing communications plans with an understanding of the diversity of the internal and external audience. Creative thinking ability to solve problems while serving as an example of moral character and commitment to advance the best interests of the Robert W. Woodruff Health Sciences Center and Emory University. Experience in the management/coordination of a patient and customer focused organization and a collegial, consultative management style allied with the ability to influence others desirable.
