Description

Under minimal supervision, the Assistant Academic Research Scientist performs a wide range of highly technical and complex tasks necessary to advance basic and/or translational research programs. You will help design and conduct research within the Pediatric Emergency Medicine Field while receiving advanced training from a designated Principal Investigator to enhance professional skills and research independence.

 

JOB DESCRIPTION:

  • Responsible for working with experimental platforms specific to the hiring Program.
  • Duties will include but are not limited to experimental design, data analysis, and interpretation and communication of results of basic and/or translational research.
  • Will be required to review literature and apply advanced knowledge, skills, and input necessary for protocol development.
  • May assist in grant and other funding applications, as necessary and appropriate.
  • Performs other responsibilities as required. 

ADDITIONAL JOB DETAILS:

  • Develops, implements, and supports the research process by assisting investigators in study design, completion of the approval process, and management of data specific to the subspecialty of involvement.
  • Develops new ideas that promote current research.
  • Prepares and publishes scientific manuscripts under the direction of the Principal Investigator.
  • Performs participant screening, enrollment, study activities, and communication.
  • Coordinates study visits and procedures. Completes data management and statistical activities.
  • May be involved with Pediatric Emergency Care Applied Research Network (PECARN) projects and is expected to participate in educational activities related to study needs for study staff, investigator team, and patient care staff.
  • Flexible to work evening and weekend hours based on specific PECARN project needs.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • PhD or MD OR Master's degree and five years of professional level experience in a technical or research lab.
  • Internship experience or experience prior to attaining the qualifying degree is not considered eligible work experience for this job classification.
  • Laboratory experience will be based on area of assignment.

NOTE: Applicants applying with a M.D. or equivalent degree must be eligible for a Georgia medical license to meet the minimum qualifications.

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A doctoral degree or equivalent (M.D. or MBBS).
  • Excellent organizational skills and strong oral communication skills essential.
  • Knowledge about processing of biological samples needed.
  • The ability to work effectively and collegiality with colleagues, and provide some supervision to research intern volunteers and medical students involved in divisional research.

NOTE: Position tasks are generally required to be performed in-person at an Emory University location.  Remote work from home day options may be granted at department discretion. Emory reserves the right to change remote work status with notice to employee.
