Description

Provides nursing care by participating in the implementation of the patient care system. Assists physicians and registered nurses in the provision of patient care. Performs a variety of semi-skilled nursing responsibilities including phlebotomy. When in a research setting assists physician and other allied health professionals to facilitate clinical research trials. May administer medication for research studies if compliant with drug restriction guidelines established at Emory Healthcare.

JOB DESCRIPTION: 

  • The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) is responsible for providing direct and indirect nursing care to patients and families in routine nursing situations under the direction and supervision of a registered nurse or licensed provider.
  • Assists physicians and registered nurses in the comfort, care, and treatment of patients including evaluation and treatment of COVID-19 patients. Performs a variety of semi-skilled nursing responsibilities.
  • Administers IVs and medications. Assists with diagnostic procedures.
  • Observes and records patients' conditions and progress.
  • In more complex situations in which the patient is unstable or requires urgent or emergent care, the LPN functions under the direct supervision of the RN or licensed provider.
  • The LPN functions as an integral member of the healthcare team.
  • Serve as a team member of the Contact Tracer COVID-19 Emory Student Health Response team.
  • Essential function will be to initiate prompt communication with people who are diagnosed or have been exposed to COVID-19 through phone calls and secure message. Performs other related duties as required.
  • Conduct daily inventory of medical equipment and supplies; maintain exam/treatment rooms per infection control policies, standard clinic policies and sectional protocols to include adequate supply of forms, supplies, and equipment in all exam rooms. Works with Director of Nursing to formulate plan for professional development.
  • Attends educational in-services as appropriate. Obtain and document patient vital signs, including temperature, respirations, pulse, and blood pressure; obtain patient measurements, to include height, weight, pain levels and others in the electronic medical record.
  • Maintains clean, safe and therapeutic environment for patient in compliance with Universal Precautions guidelines and safety standards.
  • Serve as a mentor of section-specific training for medical assistants.
  • Assist leader with development of LPN-specific competencies.
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives.
  • May provide and or conduct ongoing in-services.
  • May serve on a sectional, departmental, or organizational-wide committee.
  • Performs related duties as required.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A high school diploma or equivalent. Licensed as a Practical Nurse in the state of Georgia.
  • Successful completion of an IV therapy training program or a minimum of two years recent clinical experience in IV therapy. Mandatory CPR training.

NOTE: Position tasks are required to be performed in-person at an Emory University location; working remote is not an option. Emory reserves the right to change this status with notice to employee.
