  • Identifies and prepares stories for web, broadcast, social, and print platforms appropriate for institutional promotion to general website visitors, the mass media, social media subscribers, and donors.
  • Identifies stories, reports, announcements, quotes, messages, for institutional promotion.
  • Writes articles for print or scripts for video, slideshow, and audio products.
  • Is familiar with a wide range of storytelling styles and formats for web, social media, print, and broadcast outlets, and identifies the best ones for various stories and communications goals.
  • Writes stories for web or publications.
  • Organizes and implements ambitious production schedules for projects.
  • Responsible for editorial accuracy of products in all format; proofreads all materials before submitting for approvals.
  • May attend meetings and interview staff and leadership to identify and prepare stories.
  • Writes and edits for all platforms and editorial formats: feature stories, profiles, Q&As, chronologies, quotes, speeches, scripts, news briefs, op-eds, and other presentations.
  • May collaborate with and oversee relationships with external vendors.
  • Works directly with photo database; may include writing and logging caption content and photo credits.
  • Organizes raw interviews (text, audio, video) and resource material. May participate in drafting messaging platforms and other strategic communications planning.
  • May hire and supervise staff.
  • Performs other related duties as required.


  • A Bachelor's degree in public relations, communications, journalism, writing, or related field, and five years of professional experience in regional or national news media, higher education, or a related environment.
  • Outstanding skills in writing, editing, interviewing, and oral presentation.
  • Must have the ability to organize, set priorities, and manage several projects at once with minimal supervision.
  • Must demonstrate the ability to write journalistically at a sophisticated level, including mastery of the English language and the possession of a well-developed news sense.

NOTE: This role will be granted the opportunity to work from home temporarily during the COVID-19 pandemic, with intent to return to an Emory University location in the future. Emory reserves the right to change this status with notice to employee.
