Description

The Director, SHEH is the non-physician chief spiritual officer of the Emory Healthcare facility assigned within Emory Healthcare, Inc. and is responsible for the executive management, leadership, and administration of the work of the chaplains, training of chaplains and staff support and continuing spiritual health education and research relative to the delivery of spiritual counseling to patients, staff and their families for the assigned hospital entity. The Director collaborates with the Executive Director and other Emory leadership to create opportunities to influence the mission and integration of ethical values into patient care delivery. This work is accomplished in a matrix organizational structure where decision making is participatory and incentives are aligned for the success not only of Emory Healthcare, but also of the Woodruff Health Sciences Center.

 

JOB DESCRIPTION: 

  • The Director, Spiritual Health Emory Healthcare (SHEH) reports strategically to the Executive Director, Spiritual Health Emory Healthcare, a department within the Robert W. Woodruff Health Sciences Center (WHSC) of Emory University.
  • The Director, SHEH, is responsible for integrating the Emory Healthcare (EHC) system’s core values with respect to the ethical processes in acute care and the delivery of patient care at a specific hospital location.
  • For operational matters, the Director, SHEH works closely with the CEO of the hospital for Emory Healthcare, and others, as leadership and management of Spiritual Health Services programs for the healthcare facility.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • A master's degree in divinity.
  • Certified Educator under ACPE: The Standard for Spiritual Care and Education with a minimum of 5 years of top management experience.
  • Academic medical center experience, BCCI certification and doctoral preparation preferred.
  • Broad understanding of new opportunities in research and understanding of traditional and nontraditional methods of spiritual care.

NOTE: Position tasks are generally required to be performed in-person at an Emory University location.  Remote work from home day options may be granted at department discretion. Emory reserves the right to change remote work status with notice to employee.
