Description

The Senior Network Engineer is a central university office position responsible for supporting a highly available, secure, and fast network to enable the business and to anticipate and plan for future needs. Responsible for senior-level management and maintenance of the companies' LAN/WAN environment and computer systems including participation and oversight of daily upkeep and administration of the companies' network infrastructure and computer systems.

 

JOB DESCRIPTION:

  • Designs and implements voice, data, and transport systems.
  • Applies advanced troubleshooting and problem solving to complex network problems.
  • Collaborates with others for active maintenance and future growth. Sets policies, guidelines, and establishes best practices for active maintenance and future growth.
  • Responsible for the design, planning, implementation, troubleshooting, and maintenance of the companies' network infrastructure and architecture.
  • Installs, configures, maintains, and troubleshoots network services and devices.
  • Interacts with customers to resolve network issues. Performs inspections and upgrades.
  • Develops and maintains documentation.
  • Has the aptitude to perform troubleshooting, testing, scripting and coding and demonstrates leadership and mentoring of less-experienced engineers.
  • Reports to the NOC Manager, or the Run or Build Manager of Network Services.
  • Performs other duties as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A bachelor's degree in IT or related field and seven years of relevant IT experience with servers and networks, OR an equivalent combination of education, training, and/or experience.
  • Working knowledge of Information Technology Infrastructure Library (ITIL) Foundations v3 practices and CCNP or other network certification preferred.
  • Good working experience and familiarity with network packet analyzer/sniffers or related tools.
  • Working knowledge of the command line interface.
  • Working knowledge of SMARTS, Netcool, SolarWinds, or equivalent systems, along with familiarity with DNS BIND, Wireless and VoIP.
  • Experience with L2/L3 High availability mechanisms including stateful HA i.e. NAT, Firewall, VPN, HSRP, track, VRRP, STP, ECMP, etc.
  • Good working experience with network packet analyzer/sniffers or related tools.
  • Valid Georgia driver's license and an insurable driving record.

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Computer Science.
  • 7+ years of relevant Senior Engineering experience with servers and networks.
  • CCNP certification is required.
  • Advanced wireless certifications preferred.
  • Strong work experience with design, planning, implementation, troubleshooting and maintenance of network and wireless services
  • Strong routing and switching background.
  • Strong background with wireless services and wireless architecture.
  • Strong working knowledge of security.
  • Experience with L2/L3 High availability mechanisms including stateful HA i.e. NAT, Firewall, VPN, HSRP, track, VRRP, STP, ECMP, etc.
  • Good working experience with network packet analyzer/sniffers or related tools.
    Linux OS’s and Linux CLI (ssh/scp/rsync/tar/chmod/chown/bash/REGEX/etc.) i.e. Linux power user.
  • General network OS CLI power user – IOS, NX-OS, IOS-XE.
  • Practical knowledge of one or more coding/scripting languages – bash, tcl/tk, python, perl, php, C, etc.
  • Excellent working knowledge of BGP, OSPF.
  • Good working knowledge of DHCP, internet DNS, ISC BIND/DHCP, (infoblox preferred)
    Good familiarity with enterprise VoIP systems including dual mode ports and phone boot process.
  • Strong aptitude and experience to research, implement, create, administer, and modify custom network services monitoring and management applications across a wide array of server and service technologies.
