Description

The Division of Palliative Medicine conducts clinical research studies to determine the impact of palliative interventions for people living with serious illness and their families. Current research addresses advance care planning and racial disparities, early palliative care for individuals with lung cancer, and palliative care for adults with cystic fibrosis and their caregivers.

 

This position will support study operations and participant engagement for palliative care studies. Ideal candidate will have familiarity with serious illness, experience with clinical research (e.g., participant recruitment, administering surveys, data entry and basic data analysis) and have strong organizational skills. Ability to communicate proactively and effectively with study participants, team members, and clinicians is essential.

 

JOB DESCRIPTION:

  • Screen medical records to identify patients matching study criteria
  • Create and maintain accurate and complete study records for participants
  • Recruit participants, explaining the study and participant rights as well as answering questions about palliative care
  • Schedule patient appointments and coordinate with clinical team
  • Represent study on clinical team meetings
  • Pay participant honoraria and maintain detailed payment records
  • Monitor participants’ progress in study and issue reminders about upcoming deadlines
  • Conduct chart reviews and enter participant data
  • Participate actively in study team meetings
  • Work proactively with study operations director to identify and resolve possible challenges
  • Perform routine quality assurance checks and assist with regulatory submissions
  • Assist in other research and operations tasks as required
  • Conduct qualitative interviews with study participants
  • Participate in basic research analysis (e.g. descriptive statistics, template analysis)

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  •  High School Diploma or GED and three years of administrative support experience OR
  • Two years of college in a scientific, health related, or business administration program and one year of admin support or customer service experience OR
  • Licensed as a practical nurse (LPN) and one-year admin support or one year of licensed practical nursing experience OR
  • Bachelor's degree, Master's degree, MD or PhD in a scientific, health related or business administration program.
  • This position is intended to support clinical research and all clinical training requirements must be tracked and monitored through Emory Healthcare under the credentialing category of CLINICAL RESEARCHER.

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Master’s degree in public health or similar discipline from an accredited college or university
  • At least one-year experience in a patient-facing research role 
  • Experience in research recruitment and operations
  • Ability to work effectively in teams and on self-directed tasks
  • Familiarity with REDCap database environment
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills

NOTE: This role will be granted the opportunity to work from home regularly but must be able to commute to Emory University location as needed.  Emory reserves the right to change this status with notice to employee.
