Element 2 is an intervention study with the overarching goal of preventing new HIV infections among young, black men who have sex with men (MSM) in Atlanta, GA by increasing HIV pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) use, decreasing PrEP discontinuation, and preventing sexually transmitted infections (STI) through the use of STI post-exposure prophylaxis (PEP).  Participants are enrolled in the study for 2 years with frequent follow-up time points to assess PrEP and STI PEP usage and detect warning signs for PrEP discontinuation so that peer navigators and clinicians can intervene to prevent it.


This job is part of the Programs, Research & Innovation in Sexual Minority Health (PRISM Health) team in the Epidemiology Department at the Rollins School of Public Health. Through the confluence of behavioral, social science, epidemiology and biomedical research, PRISM Health undertakes quality science, innovative research, and evidence-based programming to better understand and improve the sexual health of sexual minority populations, with a focus on HIV.



  • Lead the development of study materials including surveys, case report forms, scripts, protocols, participant incentive logs, etc.
  • Oversee development and implementation of study recruitment and retention plans. Collaborate with the data team to develop data collection and management systems.
  • Hire and supervise the study team and graduate research assistants.
  • Contribute to the study’s mobile phone app development and testing process.
  • Oversee processes for laboratory specimen collection, reporting, and participant results notification. 
  • Oversee all study training activities.
  •  Manage the participant compensation system. 
  • Perform quality assurance checks to ensure study activities are completed per protocol.
  • Contribute to study presentations and publications. 



  • Directs the strategic planning, development, and implementation of the program. 
  • Collaborates with representatives from private, government, and international agencies. 
  • Represents the program in various national and international fora. 
  • Conducts research, designs new initiatives, writes publishable articles and papers, collaborates with others, and designs programs. 
  • May supervise staff.



  • Bachelor's degree in field related to specific program as indicated and five years program related experience, or equivalent combination of experience, education, and training. 



  • Masters Degree in Public Health or related field.
  • Experience managing HIV/AIDS research, prevention, or treatment initiatives.
  • Supervisory experience.
  • Familiarity with LGBT communities and HIV service and advocacy organizations in the Atlanta area.
  • Strong organizational skills and detail-oriented
