Emory University's Central Communications department is seeking a Social Media Specialist who has at least one year or more of recent professional experience dedicated to social media content creation, including storytelling using photos and videos.

  • Leads the efforts of all aspects of social media activities for a department or program.
  • Develops and implements strategies for multiple social media platforms and groups.
  • Designs, develops, and implements mobile marketing campaigns.
  • Develops training programs and delivers presentations for staff and volunteer social media usage, event promotion, and engagement.
  • Serves as subject matter expert by maintaining records information on social media platforms, researching and evaluating usage of evolving social media technologies, and benchmarking social media usage with industry leaders.
  • Manages database operations for social media platforms.
  • Attends, writes, and posts event and news information to the appropriate social media outlets.
  • Creates records and edits podcasts/videos for multiple communication platforms.
  • Develops written content for various newsletters, publications, and mass electronic communications.
  • Establishes and maintains relationships with alumni, donors and students.
  • Supports technology and information management.
  • Performs related responsibilities as required.


  • A bachelor's degree and two years of marketing, communications or related experience which inlcudes social media platforms, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
  • Previous experience with a variety of social media platforms including Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter, YouTube, etc.
  • Strong computer skills.



  • Experience with online design and publishing tools like Canva or similar.
  • Able to showcase or share digital portfolio with examples of social media posts, videos, or social graphics.
  • Higher education or nonprofit experience that could be obtained as part of an internship or volunteer project is a plus.


NOTE: This role will be granted the opportunity to work from home temporarily during the COVID-19 pandemic, with intent to return to an Emory University location in the future.  Emory reserves the right to change remote work status with notice to employee.
